Karim Adeyemi Foundation Hosts Ecologue 1.0 To Foster Youth-Driven Ecosystems In Ibadan

IBADAN – Karim Adeyemi Foundation (KAF) In it’s drive to empower youth across the country successfully hosted the first edition of ECOLOGUE 1.0, a youth-centered conversation aimed at building strong ecosystems and communities where young people from diverse sectors can thrive. The event, held at the foundation’s Building in Ibadan, was part of the foundation’s annual activities to mark International Youth Day (IYD). It brought together young innovators, creatives, startup founders, NGO leaders, and community builders to explore how cross-sector collaboration can accelerate sustainable development. Co-host Ayo Adams opened the event with inspiring remarks, followed by an interactive session led by moderator Oyinkansola Oluwade. The program which featured impactful sessions from industry experts, including: Islamiat Adekola, Visitmas, Ayileka Samuel, and Adeoya Adegboyega, delved into key messages on the power of storytelling in marketing, the importance of giving before receiving in business, and the value of building collaborative communities even in competitive spaces. A Broadcaster, Islamiyah Adekola, who spoke on “Owning Your Voice: Creativity for Social Impact”, called for distinctives and uniqueness to make a difference. “You don’t have to be a painter or a writer to be creative. Doing things differently, like Tunde Onakoya’s chess activism or a lawyer using unconventional advocacy is creativity. Tenacity and uniqueness make all the difference”, she said. She also admonished participants to embrace authenticity, enunciating that their voice is their brand. “focus on the value you bring and how it can create social impact. Creativity is about solving problems in ways that reflect who you truly are.”, she added. Notable attendees such as Ibrahim Oredola added to the depth and vibrancy of the conversations, as he juxtapositioned the impact of consistency and enjoying what you do, with just doing it once and giving up, citing examples like Arojinle, who even though did not make a dime from telling the stories of animals for the the first few years of content creation, has today become a household name in that niche. To close the event the President of Karim Adeyemi Foundation, Mr Abiodun Adeyemi reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to creating sustainable, youth-driven communities in Ibadan and beyond. In his words “ECOLOGUE 1.0 is just the beginning. We want to continue creating spaces where young people can connect, collaborate, and drive real change. The event was characterized by high energy, meaningful networking, and actionable takeaways, leaving participants inspired to take the conversations forward into their communities and sectors. Akinremi Immortalized, As Gov. Makinde Names Housing Estate After The Deceased Rep Member

Akinremi Immortalized, As Gov. Makinde Names Housing Estate After The Deceased Rep Member

IBADAN – THE Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has unveiled the Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban Government Reserved Area (GRA) to immortalise the late All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency from 2019 till his death on July 10, 2024. ‎Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, during the unveiling of the project held at the Dominion University Road, Samonda, Ibadan, also announced that the ongoing reconstruction of UI-Samonda Road linking Sango/Poly Road would be completed soon.‎ The ‎governor maintained that his decision to name the GRA after Akinremi has nothing to do with politics, noting that the state government chose to honour the memories of the late lawmaker for his notable achievements in Ibadan North Federal Constituency and Oyo State. He assured that the project would be delivered to standard as everything needed in terms of infrastructure and other facilities in the estate were already on the ground. Makinde equally appreciated another APC chieftain and Ekefa Olubadan, High Chief Akinade Fijabi, for attending the event despite being an opposition party member. Barrister Lawal said: “Today, what we are doing is very significant. I was with the governor in July 2024 when they called him from Abuja to inform him about the death of Jagaban. He said to me that ‘we have lost a gem in Ibadanland.’ “From that moment till this time, the governor and I thought on how to immortalise this gentleman, and he said immortalisation is not about giving money, building houses and giving out material things but about doing something that would be more enduring. So, the governor said there is a parcel of land at Samonda, which we can use to build an Estate and name it after Jagaban. “So, I am very happy on behalf of the governor that the promise he made that day has come to pass today. This and everything that everyone has said about Jagaban have shown that he lived well in his time. What this means to us is that what we do in life will continue to live after us as human beings. “Let me use this opportunity to say that, as a government, we are doing what we are supposed to do and that is why we are immortalising Jagaban today. “My prayer is that the Almighty Allah should uphold all the things he left. “So, on behalf of the governor, I want to appreciate all of you here. I have inspected this Estate personally and I have seen that all the things needed to build the infrastructure and other things are ready. “The governor has also given the solid assurance that the roads linking this Estate up to Sango would be fixed and they are being fixed right now. “Strictly speaking, what we are doing today is not about politics.” In his welcome address at the event, the chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluseun Olufade, lauded the governor for immortalising a worthy indigene of Ibadan North by naming the GRA after him. He urged political and public office holders to learn a lesson from the uncommon gesture, just as he hailed the governor for executing a lot of infrastructure development projects in the council. In his remarks, the chairman of the day, High Chief Fijabi, commended Governor Makinde for the laudable infrastructural projects he has been executing in the state and for running an inclusive government that cares for everyone, irrespective of political affiliations. He urged the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency to seal the immortalization of Hon. Akinremi by voting massively for Hon. Folajinmi Oyekunle, the PDP candidate in the by-election to fill the vacant Ibadan North House of Representatives seat slated for Saturday, August 16, 2025. Speaking on behalf of the Akinremi family, Alhaji Abideen Akinremi thanked Governor Makinde for his support to the family since the demise of their brother, assuring that the family would continue to remember the gesture. In their separate goodwill messages and tribute to the late Prince Akinremi, Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun and a member of the Akinremi Legacy Forum, Mr Michael Adegbuyi, appreciated Governor Makinde for honouring him through the generational project. Makinde Flags off Training of 18,000 Teachers, Distributes Tablets, Teaching Materials

Makinde Flags off Training of 18,000 Teachers, Distributes Tablets, Teaching Materials

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has flagged off the training of 18,000 primary and junior secondary school teachers across the 33 local government areas of the state. This was as he kick-started the distribution of instructional training materials and teaching aids to the teachers, stating that the Oyo State Government remained determined to be abreast of developments in the education sector and to meet universal standards. Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, at the event held at the Emmanuel College, Agbowo, Ibadan, on Tuesday, added that the programme was part of the government’s commitment to empowering and equipping the educators, who in turn would impart quality knowledge to pupils and students in primary and secondary schools. The intervention programme was facilitated by Global Partnership in Education, sponsored by the World Bank in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC) and Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). Speaking further, the governor stated that the instructional training materials and the teaching aids would foster the capability of pupils and students to compete nationally and internationally and also equip the teachers with modern teaching tools in line with global educational standards by also adopting up-to-date teaching methods. ‎He said: “We have come to demonstrate and make people aware that we are moving in tandem with educational development worldwide. We all know this is a digital age and we cannot afford to be analogue. So, we need to keep our teachers abreast of developments in their sector. “These computer tablets that are being distributed will further enhance the instructional capabilities of our teachers. “The tablet is well-packaged with several Apps and it is meant for all our teachers in Oyo State; 18,000 in all. “This training is going to last about two weeks so that no teacher would feign an excuse or pretend not to know how to operate the tablet. “All subjects are included in the tablets. What you only need to do is to open the tab, go to the subject matter and begin to teach our students. “It is indeed a teaching aid and would foster capability of our students to compete nationally and internationally because this mode of learning is not reversible. You can’t sit in the classrooms and be taught in analogue form when the age is digital.” While appreciating all the stakeholders in the educational sector, Governor Makinde enjoined the beneficiaries to complement the efforts of the state government through their commitment and dedication. “So, I have to appreciate BESDA, SUBEB, TESCOM, the Ministry of Education, UBEC and other members of the educational family that have put heads together for our pupils in Oyo State to take advantage of current and technologically advanced methods of teaching,” he added. Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Chief Suraj Abiodun Tiamy, said apart from the distribution of the instructional training materials and teaching aids, there would be four weeks training for teachers in sixteen centres across the state. He maintained that the exercise would be monitored to ensure that the schemes of work programmed in the teaching aids were in tandem with the curriculum. He said: “There are two sides to this intervention; we have the distribution of 18,000 tablets to our primary and secondary school teachers across all the local government areas in the state. “The second is the training for 18,000 teachers across all the LGAs. So, we have 16 centres where we are training them with professors from all our universities in Oyo State. “Not only that; we have security for these tablets, we also have the report that we will be conducting on a weekly basis to monitor our teachers to make sure they are teaching our students with the curriculum and all the subjects that are in that tablets, which is aligned to what we have in Oyo State.” In his remarks, Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Adeniran, said the distribution of the teaching aids would hasten teaching schemes and equally enable teachers to impart knowledge to the pupils and students in primary and junior secondary schools across all the local governments in the state. Adeniran added that the educational intervention programme aimed at ensuring that Oyo State teachers are well-equipped in knowledge through digital learning, saying: “This programme is made possible as a result of the programme called Global Partnership in Education, which is being sponsored by the World Bank, in collaboration with UBEC and SUBEB, and it is aimed at ensuring that our teachers get the necessary skill in digital learning. “We are in a digital age and we are expected to move away from the analogue age. In other words, all these tablets have been built with the lesson plans for some of these subjects in them. “A teacher should be able to teach without necessarily writing separate lesson notes because we already have prepared lesson notes. So, it will hasten learning. “Also, the tablet will enable any person to take the tablet and teach any subject of interest. It will also enable our teachers to impart knowledge to the pupils. “The training is for primary school teachers and some secondary school teachers, which are in the basic level of basic education. “This is the kind of training that is expected to upgrade the skill of our newly recruited teachers in teaching even to meet up with global standards. “And it is going on virtually in all the local government areas. We have centres in different schools. It is across the state.” One of the teachers, Mrs Olufisayo Fajuyigbe, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked Governor Makinde for his efforts in improving the education sector in the state, promising that teachers would continue to support the government and make good use of the instructional training materials and teaching aids to impact meaningfully on the pupils and students in the state. The event had in attendance the South-West Director, Universal Basic Education … Read more

… Eagles Coach Defends 4-0 Defeat

… Eagles Coach Defends 4-0 Defeat

Nigeria Super Eagles B coach Eric Chelle insisted that his squad selected for the African Nations Championship in Zanzibar featured the best players from the Nigeria Premier Football League, even as the team suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Sudan, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. Chelle stood by his decisions, stressing that the team selection was made in good faith and based on merit. “Even if the outcome was disappointing, the squad was chosen to represent the best of the league,” he added. The Franco-Malian coach explained that the current squad differed significantly from what he initially envisioned for the tournament. “Maybe five players left the camp or never came at all. They left to play in another league. So the team was not like we imagined. But the reality for me is it was the best player in the league,” Chelle said, defending his selection. The defeat means Nigeria are eliminated from the 8th CHAN edition after Sudan raced to a 2-0 lead before half-time, followed by two further goals in the second half, leaving the Eagles bottom of Group D. The Sudanese team capitalised on Nigeria’s defensive lapses, with Yagoub Omer scoring twice in the second half to complete the rout, leaving Nigeria’s hopes of advancing dashed. Chelle acknowledged that the Eagles started the match well, but mistakes soon piled up. “The players were focused, and we scored a goal, but after that we made a lot of mistakes and gave up the game in the second half. Four goals, four mistakes for me,” he said, reflecting on the performance. He broke down the errors that led to the rout. “We cannot play games like that and lose because we made a lot of mistakes during these two games. The first goal against Senegal was a mistake. In this game, the first two goals were mistakes, and after that the other two goals were due to mistakes in positioning,” he explained. Chelle also highlighted the challenge of competing at this level. “It’s difficult at this level of competition. We need to be more focused,” he said, urging the team to learn from the experience. Nigeria will now exit the competition, with their final Group D match against Congo next week serving only as a formality.

Domestic Workers Relive Moments With Buhari One Month After Death

Domestic Workers Relive Moments With Buhari One Month After Death

One month after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, his domestic workers in Daura say the void left by their late boss is yet to be filled. Buhari, who died at a London hospital on July 13, 2025, aged 82, was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. Known for his humility and personal touch, the former president, they said, was more than an employer — he was a mentor, friend, and guardian. “Our late boss was more than our employer, he was a guardian and a close friend to us and our families,” one worker, who requested anonymity, told The PUNCH. “This one month with the thought of his no return has indeed shown a cool world of emptiness around here.” Another staff member recalled Buhari’s habit of attending personal milestones of his workers. “He would visit our homes for condolences or naming ceremonies, staying for hours to offer comfort and prayers without regard for his status,” the worker said. “He will be missed because we have lost a friend, mentor, and employer. His presence brought us pride.” During a visit to Buhari’s residence on Wednesday, our correspondent observed a well-decorated gravesite in the late president’s compound, draped in green and white — the colours of the Nigerian flag. The once-bustling streets around the house have returned to normal, with only a light security presence compared to the heavy deployment in the days after his burial. A source close to the family said preparations were underway for the 40-day prayer ceremony, expected to draw large crowds back to Daura. “After Baba’s burial and the relocation of his family to Kaduna, the area has been quiet. Insha Allah, in the next 10 days, the family will return for the prayers,” the source said. Neighbours in Daura also paid tribute to Buhari’s legacy. Mohammed Ibrahim described him as “a well-cultured, humble, and disciplined individual” who valued time, upheld daily prayers, and treated all with respect. The former president’s death, they said, has left a lasting reminder of life’s brevity and of the character that made him beloved in his hometown and beyond.

Ibom Air Bans ‘Unruly Passenger’ For life After Airport Row

Ibom Airlines Limited has banned a passenger identified as Comfort Emmanson, from flying with its airline after she was found assaulting one of the crew members of their aircraft. Emmanson had in a viral video repeatedly slapped a Purser with Ibom Aircraft after she was allegedly told to switch off her phone before take-off. Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, Ibom Air said the incident happened on Sunday while Emmanson was on board their Uyo to Lagos flight. The statement read, “Shortly before take-off from Uyo, Ms. Emmanson was instructed in line with standard aviation safety procedures to switch off her mobile phone. She bluntly refused to comply until the Pilot-in-Command made an announcement, after which a fellow passenger seated beside her took the phone and switched it off. “This action prompted a verbal tirade from Ms. Emmanson. The situation was eventually calmed, and the flight departed as scheduled. “Upon arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson waited for all other passengers to disembark and then proceeded to confront the Purser, who had earlier instructed her. She walked up to the unsuspecting Purser, stepped on her, forcibly tore off her wig, removed her glasses and threw it to the floor, and used her footwear to assault her. She slapped her several times, and when the other cabin crew member tried to intervene, she slapped her too.” The airline also maintained that the passenger attempted to forcibly remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, an act they described as “an intention to damage and ground the aircraft”. “By this time, the Pilot-in-Command had alerted airport security. Before security could arrive, the Purser, as seen on the viral video on the internet, prevented the passenger from leaving the aircraft until security arrived. “The arrival of Ibom Air Security personnel did not deter the passenger, as she attacked them as well, lashing out violently at the security personnel. She was then restrained and removed from the aircraft by force. Even after disembarking, she continued to assault Ibom Air security personnel and even slapped the ground supervisor. “The passenger was removed from the ramp and taken into custody by FAAN security and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation,” Ibom Air stressed. The airline stated that it had submitted a report on the incident to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and placed a travel restriction on Ms. Emmanson, who will no longer be permitted to fly on any of their aircraft, while commending the crew members and the security personnel for handling the situation with decorum. “Ibom Air has since submitted a report on the incident to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and placed a travel restriction on Ms. Emmanson, who will no longer be permitted to fly on any of our aircraft. “Ibom Air reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of unruly or violent conduct that threatens the safety of passengers, crew, or equipment. Such behavior will be met with the strongest possible response, including legal action and permanent restriction from our services. “We commend the bravery and professionalism of our crew in handling this situation under extremely challenging circumstances, as well as the swift support from airport security and the Nigerian Police.”

In Ona-Ara Local Government, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Kolapo Temitope Glorious, praised the state government’s total support for grassroots farming. “This is a timely boost for our farmers. Now I can proceed and expect a good harvest.” Another beneficiary, Mrs. Adijat Ayinde, noted, “This support means my family can farm without borrowing money from local lenders who charge high interest.” In Egbeda Local Government, Executive Chairman Hon. This year will be different.” Mrs. Kafayat Olaniyan added, “This is the first time I’m receiving government support directly. I’ll Die On a Sunday After Service, Pastor Adeboye Predicts Own Death

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has restated his vision of how he believes he will pass away, peacefully, on a Sunday, after attending church service and eating his favourite meal, pounded yam. Speaking on the fourth day of the church’s ongoing International Convention themed “The Overcomers”, Adeboye said death does not always come through prolonged illness and that his departure would be sudden and painless. “I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he declared. The cleric noted that he first shared this vision two years ago and was repeating it to reassure believers that death can be peaceful for those in Christ. Delivering a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions”, Adeboye urged Christians to actively claim what is rightfully theirs in Christ, warning that spiritual blessings often have to be fought for. Drawing from the biblical story of the Israelites taking the Promised Land, he said: “In many cases, you may have to fight for things that are already yours.” He listed healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and long life as areas where believers must resist spiritual opposition. “Your greatest friend, Jesus Christ, paid a great price to purchase your healing. Yet there is a thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy,” he said, citing John 10:10. “Long life is yours, but the devil wants to kill you with all he has. You must fight to live.” On prosperity, Adeboye declared: “The One who owns the earth and its fullness, and owns all the silver and gold, paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor.” He criticised the double standard faced by successful Christians: “If you make it as a Christian, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say, ‘Where’s your God?’” Referencing biblical figures like Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through persistent prayer, he urged believers to reject all forms of spiritual oppression. Concluding his message, Adeboye used the story of Jacob wrestling with an angel as a call to spiritual perseverance: “It is what we tolerate that disturbs us. Stop tolerating sickness, poverty, barrenness, or premature death. Fight to possess your possessions, it’s your spiritual duty, made possible by Christ’s sacrifice.”
