AIG Ewah Warns Zone 11 Police Officers Against Partisan Politics Ahead of 2027

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Ewah, has warned police officers in Osun and Oyo states against partisan politics as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum. Ewah issued the warning on Friday, September 25, 2026, urging officers to remain neutral, professional and impartial in the discharge of their duties. The directive followed a similar instruction by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olaleye Disu, at the recently concluded CARSPO 2026 conference and retreat for senior police officers in Owerri, Imo State. Police Must Remain Neutral Ewah stressed that the Nigeria Police Force must provide a level playing field for all political actors while ensuring that parties and their supporters comply with the law. He urged officers under Zone 11 to avoid political activities or conduct that could compromise the neutrality and integrity of the Force. The AIG also called on politicians in Osun and Oyo states to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly. He warned political actors against violence, hate-driven conduct and actions capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that anyone who disturbs the peace will face the law. Ewah reaffirmed Zone 11’s commitment to ensuring that political parties and candidates can conduct their campaigns peacefully while respecting Nigerian laws.

2027: Christian, Muslim Youths Sign Peace Agreement in Abuja

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations have entered into a peace agreement ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to promote peace and unity throughout the electoral process. The signing took place at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Friday during the 2026 National Christian Youth Security Summit and Thanksgiving Service, held under the theme: “Empowered for Leadership, Service and Nation Building.” The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the peace accord aimed to foster religious tolerance, reject political violence and promote peaceful coexistence ahead of the 2027 elections. The three-day summit brought together security officials, government representatives, church leaders and youth delegates from the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), five CAN blocs and six geopolitical zones. Delivering his welcome address, the National Chairman of YOWICAN, Ven. Evang. Ademola Arowolo, described the peace accord as a “covenant of hope and a declaration of unity” designed to curb electoral violence and interfaith friction from the national level down to the grassroots. “Today marks a defining moment in the history of youth engagement, faith-based leadership, national security advocacy, and interfaith collaboration in Nigeria. “This Peace Accord represents more than a document. It is a covenant of hope, a declaration of unity, and a collective commitment by Christian and Muslim youths to work together in promoting peace, justice, dialogue, tolerance, and national development.” Addressing newsmen during an interview, Arowolo emphasised the sanctity of human life and urged young people to resist political thuggery and vote-buying as the country prepares for the next electoral cycle. “The key objective of today’s gathering is for the Christian youth of this country to sit down and see that security is very important, because every life whether of a Muslim, a Christian, or any other faith is sacred. “God Himself does not divide us; it is human beings that divide us in their own mindsets. “An idle man is the devil’s workshop, but as elections approach, if somebody meets you for any violence, tell them your children should not come. We cannot destroy our own land,” he said. Corroborating the commitment, the National President of NACOMYO, Sani Sulaiman-Maigoro, stressed that interfaith solidarity remained the most viable tool to defeat security threats and political manipulation. “First and foremost is for us to accept the reality that we are first Nigerians, and Nigeria is our country. Together we live and prosper, and when we are divided, we all suffer. “When we work together, we are able to defeat the negative narrative and those few people who choose to be evil and divide us along religious, ethnic, or sectional lines. “Nigerian Muslim youths are here in solidarity with Christian youths to say we are together towards securing and making Nigeria a better place for all,” he said. Representing President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, cautioned young people against allowing politicians to use them as instruments of destruction. “We are meeting at a very crucial time in the history of our great nation a period when we are moving towards another election “It should be a period that none of you will be used as a sacrificial lamb. We don’t want any politician to use you and waste your life. “The Muslim and the Christian in Nigeria must work together; we are brothers and sisters, and it is only when you have peace that you can talk of progress.” The President of CAN, Most Rev. Daniel Okoh, urged Christian youths to rise as nation-builders and moral exemplars. Okoh, represented by Rev. Simon Dolly-KIF, the Secretary-General of the Northern Christian Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA), urged youths to rise beyond the limitations of yesterday. “The time has come for Nigerian Christian youths to rise beyond the limitations of yesterday and embrace the responsibility of building the Nigeria we desire to see tomorrow. “Let no Christian youth become an instrument of violence, hatred, manipulation, or destruction. “We must refuse to be recruited into anything that destroys the lives and future of our fellow Nigerians. Nigeria is bigger than our ethnicity, denomination, and political differences.” Highlighting the security perspective, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), noted that peace was essential for youth productivity. Musa, represented by Mr Musa Likita, Special Adviser on Security and Intelligence to the Minister of Defence, recognised the important role of the youth in national development under a whole-of-society approach. “The youth are full of energy, creativity, and innovation, so they will thrive better when the environment is peaceful. “Youths are implored to hold values where they will not allow themselves to be exploited by extremist forces or criminal elements.” (NAN)

2027: ADC Urges Governorship Candidates to Shun Violence, Hate Speech

The African Democratic Congress has urged its governorship candidates to steer clear of political violence, hate speech and other provocative acts as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections. ADC also said it would establish a National Reconciliation Committee to resolve disputes arising from its governorship primaries and bring aggrieved aspirants and their supporters back into its fold. National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, of ADC disclosed this on Monday after a meeting between the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and its governorship candidates at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. Abdullahi said the meeting provided an opportunity for Mark to engage the candidates directly on the outcome of the primaries, the need for reconciliation and the party’s strategy for the 2027 elections. He said the party was aware that competition during the primaries had created disagreements in some states and that such divisions could undermine its chances in the general election if left unresolved. “The party is setting up a National Reconciliation Committee that will work across the country to bring all party members together in the aftermath of the primaries and in preparation for the general election next year,” Abdullahi said. He added that the membership of the committee would be announced shortly. According to the spokesman, Mark also warned the candidates against allowing the heat of political competition to push them into actions capable of undermining the party’s image or threatening the electoral process. He said the ADC expected its candidates to campaign on issues rather than resort to ethnic or religious mobilisation, intimidation or personal attacks. “The Chairman made it very clear to them that it is not the ADC way. We are not a party that believes that all is fair in politics. “We believe that there are some things that politicians must not do and that a political party must not do. The Chairman made it very clear that it should not involve any form of violence or hate speech,” he added. The directive comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with governorship contests expected to be fiercely contested across the states. For the ADC, which has positioned itself as a major opposition platform, the challenge will include managing internal differences while building a nationwide campaign capable of challenging the established political parties. Abdullahi said the party would also require its candidates to make the ADC’s national policy agenda a central part of their campaigns. In particular, Mark directed them to explain the party’s proposed intervention on fuel pricing and the cost of living, including its plan to reintroduce a form of fuel subsidy targeted at reducing the burden on Nigerians. “He emphasised to them that it’s not an isolated issue. This is an issue that the African Democratic Congress is serious about, and it is one thing that will distinguish us from all other political parties,” Abdullahi said. He said the party would equip the candidates with details of the proposed policy so they could properly explain its objectives and implementation to voters in their respective states. The ADC’s position on fuel subsidy forms part of the wider political debate over the consequences of the removal of the petrol subsidy by the President Bola Tinubu administration. While the Federal Government has maintained that subsidy removal was necessary to reform the economy and free resources for development, opposition parties have increasingly made the cost of living and fuel prices major campaign issues. The party also sought to allay concerns over possible changes to the list of candidates it submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission. Abdullahi said no governorship candidate at Monday’s meeting had complained of the substitution of a validly nominated candidate. “No one has complained that his candidates, or candidates that they know in their respective states, have been substituted,” he said. He, however, said the party had documentation covering its submissions to INEC, including acknowledgements received by the party. “If at any point it is brought to our notice that any candidate is swapped, we will deal with it administratively,” he said. The party’s position on political provocation was also extended to incidents involving its campaign teams. Abdullahi said reports of attacks on ADC supporters, destruction of campaign billboards and attempts to restrict the party’s campaign activities in some states would be addressed through legal and constitutional means. He said the ADC would not allow itself to be drawn into retaliatory violence, regardless of the provocation. “We will always do it in the ADC way, and the ADC way is the legal way. Whenever we are confronted with any form of provocation, we will resist it and we will challenge it within legal means. “Violence is not the ADC way. Political violence, hate speech, or whatever form is forbidden in our party,” Abdullahi clarified. He warned that party members and candidates who violated the ADC’s rules could face disciplinary action. “The party has a way of dealing with those issues, and we will deal with them when it happens,” he said. According to him, the party was strengthening its structures to ensure that its candidates remained subject to the authority and rules of the organisation throughout the election period. The publicity scribe, however, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of “political terrorism”, alleging that threats and intimidation were being used against voters and opposition supporters in some parts of the country. He referred to an alleged statement by a political candidate threatening voters who failed to support the APC, describing such conduct as unacceptable in a democracy. The spokesman said the ADC was documenting incidents of alleged intimidation and would make relevant reports public while seeking legal remedies where necessary. He also raised concerns over the cost of campaign advertising, alleging that some state authorities were imposing prohibitive charges for the erection of opposition campaign billboards. According to him, some of the charges were as high as ₦100m, which he argued could effectively prevent opposition parties from accessing public spaces for campaign communication. 2027: Agboola Unveils 100,000-Job Plan, Promises Education and Industrial Revolution in Oyo

The Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mogaji Olusegun Agboola, has unveiled an ambitious development agenda focused on education, skills acquisition, industrialisation, digital transformation and job creation as the party intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Agboola, the Mogaji Abiolu of Oke Ofa Tite, spoke during a political gathering and reception held in Ogbomoso, where he joined party leaders and supporters to welcome SDP leader, Honourable Mulikat Adeola Akande. The gubernatorial candidate described the large turnout and reception accorded party leaders as an indication that residents of Ogbomoso and other parts of the state are yearning for change. According to him, the presence of representatives from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State at the gathering demonstrated that the SDP remains strong and well represented across the state.   Agboola said his decision to seek the governorship was driven by his desire to expand the community-oriented interventions he had undertaken through the foundation established in honour of his late father, Chief Ezekiel Atanda Agboola, popularly known as “Mafoya,” one of the founding fathers of the Bodija International Plank Market in Ibadan. He noted that the foundation had contributed to communities through healthcare interventions, scholarships, solar panel donations and provision of boreholes, stressing that his administration would seek to take such interventions to a much larger scale if elected. “I’m here obeying the call to serve our people, and we’ve been serving the people for a while,” Agboola said. He identified education as one of the major areas requiring urgent attention, lamenting that Oyo State, which he said was once among Nigeria’s leading states in education, had lost ground. Agboola promised comprehensive educational reforms, including the expansion of vocational education, skills acquisition and youth development programmes. He also emphasised the need to equip young people with knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies. The candidate, who studied Biochemistry at the University of Ibadan and has spent more than two decades working in the Information and Communications Technology sector, said his experience had convinced him that young people could build sustainable careers when given access to the right skills and opportunities. He projected that his proposed reforms could generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities across different sectors. “By the time we’re done with the educational reform, we’ll be creating nothing less than 15,000 educational services people — teachers, mentors and sports coaches,” he said. He added that the revival and expansion of industrial activities in the state would create opportunities for professionals including industrial chemists, engineers, accountants and lawyers, while improvements in the water sector would also generate employment for water engineers and other specialists. According to Agboola, the proposed digital transformation of the state would have an even wider employment impact. “By the time we deliver the digital transformation we require for the state to function efficiently, more than 100,000 jobs will open up,” he said. He also pledged to strengthen the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors, improve healthcare delivery and create more opportunities for young people through vocational and technical training. Agboola urged residents of Oyo State to take the 2027 election seriously, stressing that their votes remain a powerful tool for determining the direction of the state. “Your power is that one vote. Don’t give up on it,” he told the gathering. Also speaking, the SDP Oyo State Chairman, Honourable Okunlade Michael, said the party had conducted sensitisation exercises across the three local government areas in Ogbomoso. He said the response from residents showed a growing desire for change, adding that the SDP was prepared to provide an alternative political platform for the people of Oyo State. Similarly, the SDP Chairman representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Alhaji Agboola Fatai, urged citizens to participate actively in the electoral process and vote for candidates of their choice. He maintained that the SDP had a long history in Nigerian politics and called on residents to come out en masse during the election. The Ogbomoso gathering forms part of the SDP’s wider mobilisation and sensitisation activities across Oyo State as the party prepares for the 2027 governorship election.

2027: Ondo Will Deliver Massive Votes for Tinubu, Aiyedatiwa Pledges

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged that the state will deliver overwhelming support and massive votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Aiyedatiwa stated this on Friday in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, when he received the leadership of the Ondo State chapter of the City Boy Movement, a pro-Tinubu political group, at the Governor’s Office in Akure. The group, led by its state coordinators, Oluwafemi Ayejusunle and Tomide Akinribido, visited the governor to brief him on its activities, structure and grassroots mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group also sought the governor’s support and the collaboration of the of the state government for its activities in Ondo. Aiyedatiwa commended the group for its commitment to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress and its advocacy for the Renewed Hope Agenda of Tinubu. The governor said Ondo had declared its full support for Tinubu’s re-election, citing his proclamation of “Ondo For Tinubu 2027”. He said the achievements of his administration in infrastructure, job creation, youth employment and empowerment would help to secure more support for Tinubu in the state. “Our people are seeing and feeling the impact of good governance. From road projects to health, education, and empowerment, we are building a foundation that makes it easy to sell the Renewed Hope message in Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa said. The governor said the benefits of his administration’s programmes would translate into votes for Tinubu in the 2027 election. “Every action we take that impacts the people positively is a vote for the president. Every of the 6,000 jobs we have created is a vote for the president. Every road we build attract votes for the president. Every political appointment we make has multiplier effects that translate to more votes for the president,” he said. He added, “The President’s vision aligns with what we are doing here, and our people will reward that with their votes in 2027.” Aiyedatiwa assured the City Boy Movement and other support groups working for Tinubu’s re-election that his administration would support their activities. He said all groups campaigning for the President in Ondo would be carried along and given the necessary backing to succeed. Earlier, Ayejusunle thanked the governor for what he described as his exemplary leadership and for aligning the state with Tinubu’s administration. He said the group would intensify grassroots sensitisation to mobilise support for Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 elections. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Olayide Adelami; Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Fasoranti; and Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Abiola Olawoye.

Accord Presidential Candidate Explains Why Tinubu Will Win in 2027

Prof. Christopher Imumolen, the presidential candidate and National Chairman of a faction of the Accord Party, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu is on course to win the 2027 presidential election, citing his administration’s reforms, leadership style and increasing support across the country. Imumolen stated this at a news conference in Lagos on Friday, where he formally announced his withdrawal from the 2027 presidential race and endorsed Tinubu for a second term. He said the decision followed extensive consultations with the party’s leadership and members. Imumolen said that national interest should always take precedence over personal ambition and partisan considerations. According to him, Tinubu’s re-election is inevitable because Nigerians are beginning to appreciate the long-term benefits of the administration’s reform agenda despite prevailing economic challenges. “Tinubu will win because of his people-oriented programmes and the massive support he has received from different parts of the country. “There is focus. Let us forget about the challenges of inflation and security. There must be progress. “If another person comes in 2027, he will have to start all over again. “There must be continuity. He has identified the challenges, and we need to move from where we are to the next phase. That is why we are supporting him, and he will win. My support is total,” Imumolen said. He said the President’s reform agenda closely aligned with his own manifesto, especially in economic transformation, education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, industrialisation and national development. Imumolen said the party endorsed him for ten reasons, after reviewing the administration’s performance and Nigeria’s future development needs. He said the first three reasons were Tinubu’s courage in implementing difficult economic reforms, demonstrated leadership capacity and commitment to progressive governance through continuity of development projects. According to him, the fourth, fifth and sixth reasons were deliberate youth empowerment, bridging generational leadership and appointing competent individuals into strategic public offices. He said the seventh, eighth and ninth reasons were placing national interest above personal ambition, ensuring policy continuity, political stability and sustained reforms, and demonstrating transparency through the party’s early endorsement. Imumolen said the tenth reason was the party’s conviction that collaboration in the national interest would strengthen democracy and accelerate national development. “Over the last four years, I was one of those who criticised the President. However, I have also witnessed his leadership style and the progress his administration has made,” he said. He said no opposition presidential candidate, including those of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), possessed a stronger prospect than Tinubu. Imumolen commended the administration for appointing young Nigerians into strategic positions, saying the President had demonstrated confidence in the country’s younger generation. According to him, the appointments have created opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to governance and national development. “I believe President Bola Tinubu is uniquely positioned to provide a seamless transition between Nigeria’s founding democratic leadership and the emerging generation of transformational leaders,” he said. Imumolen reiterated that his political aspiration had always been driven by service to Nigeria rather than the pursuit of public office. “My aspiration has always been to serve Nigeria and not merely to occupy political office. “Whenever the national interest is better served through unity and strategic collaboration, I will always choose Nigeria above personal interest,” he said. He said continuity in governance remained essential for attracting investment, creating jobs, strengthening institutions and sustaining ongoing reforms across the country. “These are some of the reasons our party has collectively resolved to stand behind President Tinubu in the forthcoming election. “There is no hidden agenda. Our only objective is to support what we believe is good for Nigeria and secure a better future for ourselves and our children,” he said. Imumolen said the party announced its endorsement ahead of the election to demonstrate openness and provide clarity to its members and supporters. He dismissed claims that the endorsement resulted from weak political structures, insisting the decision was based entirely on performance and national interest. “Our party evaluates leaders based on their performance. We have assessed Mr President’s record and believe supporting him is in the national interest,” he said. Imumolen explained that the party deliberately declined to field a presidential candidate because it believed continuity would consolidate the reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration. He assured supporters that the presidential endorsement would not affect Accord Party’s participation in governorship, legislative and other elections across the country. (NAN)

2027: INEC Adds 3.4 Million New Voters to Register

The Independent National Electoral Commission has recorded over 3.4 million new voters in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise nationwide. State-by-state data showed that Jigawa recorded the highest number of registrants with 201,047, representing 5.84 per cent of the total. Lagos followed with 181,095, while Kano ranked third with 177,681 registrations. INEC also reported that 48,330 Persons with Disabilities registered during the period. The commission noted that the figure remains provisional, explaining that it is “a preliminary figure pending data clean-up during the period for citizens’ claims and objections, followed by the deployment of the Automated Biometric Identification System.” It further stated that voter registration remains suspended in the Federal Capital Territory in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, following the Area Council Election held on February 21. INEC urged eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to visit its official portals to complete their registration before the deadline.

2027: Sani, Abbas ask Kaduna APC to Deliver Two Million Votes

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday charged the newly elected State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress in the state to deliver no fewer than two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The directive came as Isaac Atiku Sankay emerged as the consensus chairman of the party during the state congress held at Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna. Sankay, born in 1983, is the current Special Adviser on Peace and Conflict Resolution to the Governor and was adopted by stakeholders after consultations across the 23 local government areas of the state. Addressing delegates at the congress, Sani described the exercise as a defining moment in the continued consolidation of the APC in the state. “This congress reflects our internal cohesion and democratic discipline. It shows that Kaduna APC is united and prepared for the future,” the governor said. He disclosed that 6,885 ward executives were elected across the 255 wards in the state during the ward congresses. According to him, 621 local government executives also emerged from congresses conducted across the 23 local government areas. “At the state level, 36 executive members have been affirmed and sworn in. This underscores the strength of our party structure and our presence in every community,” Sani added. The governor maintained that the adoption of consensus candidates was not a sign of weakness but an indication of political maturity and unity. “Our focus is governance, development and electoral victory. We must begin mobilisation from the polling units and ensure alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated. In his remarks, Abbas urged the new executives to immediately swing into action and unite all factions within the party. “You must deliver over two million votes for President Tinubu and the same for Governor Uba Sani in 2027. That is the task before you,” the Speaker said. He commended the outgoing leadership for securing victories for the party in the 2015 and 2023 elections, expressing confidence that the 2027 target was achievable. In his acceptance speech, Sankay thanked God and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the trust. “I will serve with discipline, courage and measurable results. We will strengthen internal democracy, deepen grassroots mobilisation and create opportunities for youth and women participation,” he said. The outgoing State Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (retd.), thanked party faithful for their support during his eight-year tenure, noting that he was leaving behind a more united and formidable APC in Kaduna State.

2027: Kwankwaso, Makinde Hold Closed-door Meeting

The 2023 presidential candidate and the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Wednesday, met Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, behind closed doors at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan. Although the outcome of the meeting was not made known to the public, it was believed that it was not unconnected with consolidating the existing age-long cordial ties between Kwankwaso and Makinde. Among Kwankwaso’s entourage were NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr Ajid Ahmed, the National Publicity Secretary, Najipo Johnson, and other Party’s top echelon. Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Kwankwaso disclosed that he was in Ibadan mainly to inaugurate the NNPP’s new state office as part of efforts aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and unity in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election. He added that the meeting with Makinde transcended partisan considerations. “I am here in Ibadan together with the national chairman of our party, NNPP, Dr Ajid Ahmed, and other party officials to open our office here and discuss important issues relating to our party in Oyo State. “But before proceeding to the party office, I felt it was important to pay a courtesy visit to the governor, who has always been our friend. This visit is more about personal friendship than party politics,” he said. Kwankwaso, who recognised Makinde’s membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, admitted that he also had deep roots in the PDP before his eventual defection. He said, “In fact, we formed the PDP in 1998. By 1999, I was elected Governor of Kano State under the PDP and later served as Minister of Defence. “I also returned to Kano under the PDP and served in various national and international capacities, including as an envoy in Darfur and Somalia.” Kwankwaso recalled that he later joined the All Progressives Congress before aligning with the NNPP, where he is currently serving as the national leader. The former Kano State governor thereafter inaugurated the party’s office in Ibadan. According to him, the inauguration was to establish the party’s presence in the state capital, ahead of the 2027 general election. Kwankwaso recently lost his political godson and the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, to the ruling APC. There were also reports that the former Kano State governor may join the ADC ahead of the 2027 election. Kwankwaso has, however, stated that he would join any political party that would offer him a presidential or vice presidential ticket. Speaking on the defection of Governor Yusuf to the APC, Kwankwaso said the NNPP would ensure the governor did not return in 2027. The visit to Makinde, political pundits believed, was part of broader consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
