2027: Four Years Not Enough for Tinubu’s Reforms, Adeleke Says

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, arguing that four years would not be enough for the President’s reforms to deliver their intended results. Adeleke spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja. “We must give our father, the President of this nation, time for his reform to work. It’s not easy. Four years is not enough,” the governor said, declaring his support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. Adeleke, who was recently named coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Osun State, expressed confidence in the President’s chances in the 2027 election. “Nobody can stop this movement. We’re going to sing, we’re going to dance all the way back to Aso Rock,” he said. The governor added that Nigerians wanted action rather than excessive talk, urging supporters to work towards Tinubu’s re-election. He also called on citizens to continue praying for the President, saying his success would benefit the country. The revised campaign council list also named Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT, while Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo was included in the council. Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described the gathering as a “rainbow coalition” bringing together people from different political parties. Adeleke governs Osun State under the Accord Party, while the APC campaign council is chaired by Tinubu, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima as vice-chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari serves as Director-General, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma is the secretary. The APC is scheduled to flag off its presidential campaign in Kaduna on October 24.

2027: Adeleke Camp Pledges 1.5 Million Votes for Tinubu

The Imole Campaign Council has pledged to mobilise 1.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, following the appointment of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as the state coordinator of the president’s campaign council. The council’s Director-General, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, disclosed this in a statement, welcoming Adeleke’s inclusion in the revised list of the Presidential Campaign Council. Oyewumi said the council would work with the Accord Party’s structure in Osun State to support Tinubu’s re-election bid. “The appointment is a well-deserved one. We assure the President that his confidence in the ability of Governor Adeleke to deliver Osun in the presidential election will not be misplaced,” he said. He added, “We promise the President, just like Governor Adeleke said sometime ago, that we will deliver 1.5 million votes to ensure his victory in the coming presidential election.” The council also urged Osun residents to support Adeleke, linking the governor’s performance in office to its call for support for Tinubu. Other political figures reportedly included in the revised campaign council list are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Oyo Rising Citizens Forum Sets Date for Governance Dialogue With Senator Alli

The Oyo Rising Citizens Forum (ORCF), a socio-political organisation with a strong network across various sectors and all local government areas in Oyo State, has announced plans to host Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the state, for an interactive governance dialogue. The programme, tagged “A Dialogue on the Future of Oyo State,” will hold on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. prompt at Mercyfield Event Place, formerly known as NULGE Hall, along Onireke Road, Dugbe, Ibadan. The organisers disclosed this in a joint press release signed by Alaba Adebisi and Owolabi Salam. According to the organisers, the initiative will provide a direct and transparent platform for the APC candidate to engage with citizens and present his governance plans, policy direction and vision for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election. “The initiative is meticulously designed to provide a direct, transparent, and one-on-one platform for the APC flagbearer to engage with the public and explicitly detail his governance blueprint, policy frameworks, and definitive vision for the economic and social trajectory of Oyo State if he is elected as the next executive governor.” The Forum said it organised the programme to give residents an opportunity to understand what Senator Alli intends to offer the people of Oyo State if elected governor in 2027. It added that the dialogue would go beyond conventional political campaigning by focusing on practical solutions to some of the state’s major challenges, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, civil service welfare and agricultural development. The organisers said the programme would bring the candidate together with professional bodies, youth groups, trade unions, media representatives, community leaders and other stakeholders. “By bringing the candidate face-to-face with professional bodies, youth networks, trade unions, media representatives, community leaders and others, the Oyo Rising Citizens Forum intends to facilitate a robust exchange that sets a new benchmark for democratic engagement and accountability in the state.” The Forum also invited members of the press and the general public to attend the event and participate in the discussion on the future of Oyo State.

Kogi LG APC Chairman Dies After Reconciliation Meeting

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi State, Aliyu Momoh Ezzu, has confirmed the death of the party’s Ijumu Local Government Area chairman, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, shortly after a reconciliation meeting in the area. Ezzu confirmed Solomon’s death in a condolence message on Friday, describing the late party chairman as a committed party member whose contributions to the growth and unity of the APC in Ijumu Local Government Area would not be forgotten. Solomon reportedly slumped during a party reconciliation meeting held in Iyara, the headquarters of Ijumu LGA, on Friday. His death was subsequently confirmed by the Kogi APC chairman, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss and commiserated with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the people of Ijumu Local Government Area, the deceased’s family, friends and members of the APC. “His sudden death has sent shock and sadness across the APC family in Ijumu Local Government and Kogi State,” the statement issued on behalf of Ezzu read. The Kogi APC chairman described Solomon as a committed party leader who contributed to the growth and unity of the party in the local government. He prayed to God to grant the deceased’s family and the entire APC family the strength to bear the loss. Ezzu also urged party members and supporters to remain calm and united during the period of mourning. The circumstances surrounding Solomon’s death were earlier reported by AIT Online, which said the APC chairman slumped while a reconciliation meeting was ongoing at the Iyara Town Hall. According to the report, confusion and panic followed his sudden collapse among political leaders and delegates present at the meeting. Solomon was reportedly rushed to a medical facility in neighbouring Kabba, where he was pronounced dead. The exact cause of his death has yet to be officially disclosed. The reconciliation meeting was said to have been convened to harmonise political interests, reconcile factions, resolve internal disagreements and foster unity among APC stakeholders in Ijumu ahead of future political activities. According to AIT Online, the initiative was convened by a former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Funsho Olumoko, following a mandate from the Ijumu Consultative Forum. The reconciliation effort reportedly followed an earlier meeting in Iyara where APC stakeholders in the local government endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ododo for their second terms. However, a previous session of the meeting was reportedly marred by disagreements over local government leadership, leading to a walkout by Solomon and some government officials. Friday’s meeting was therefore said to have been convened to bridge the divisions and bring together selected political leaders, local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees from the 15 wards of Ijumu Local Government Area. Meanwhile, the APC executives in Ijumu LGA have also mourned the late party chairman. In a condolence message signed by the party’s General Secretary, Joshua Monday Oshatoba, the executives described Solomon’s death as sudden, painful and devastating. “The news of his passing has left us devastated and speechless. He was a committed party leader who served with dedication, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility,” the message read. The local party executives said his death was a great loss not only to his immediate family but also to the APC, Ijumu Local Government and the entire Ijumu community.

Osun Poll: APC Urges Adeleke to Stop Blaming Tinubu for His Challenges

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the ruling party for his political difficulties ahead of the August 15 governorship election, saying he should instead defend his performance in office. APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, made the call while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, in response to comments by Adeleke at a campaign rally in Osogbo, where the governor accused political opponents of orchestrating violence in the state and appealed to Tinubu to intervene. Adeleke had alleged that extrajudicial killings were taking place in Osun and urged the President not to turn a blind eye to the situation. “President Bola Tinubu, something is happening in Osun that you have not moved to put an end to. They are killing our people. You are the President; you are the father for all of us. Osun has said they won’t allow rigging,” the governor was quoted as saying. He also warned against any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the election, drawing parallels with the political crisis that engulfed the old Western Region in 1983. “There won’t be rigging in Osun. Remember what happened in 1983. It started in Yorubaland when they cheated Bola Ige and Michael Ajasin. Osun will not agree. We want a free and fair election. President Tinubu, I am passing this message to you. We have endorsed you; why are they still killing us?” Adeleke added. Responding, Bashiru dismissed the governor’s allegations as baseless and urged him to run an issue-based campaign if he believed he deserved a second term. “If Governor Adeleke truly has achievements to present to the people of Osun, he should campaign on them instead of casting aspersions on President Tinubu and leaders of the APC over an election that is still days away,” Bashiru said. The APC scribe said it was surprising that a sitting governor was already raising fears of election rigging nearly two weeks before the poll. “How can a sitting governor be crying about rigging in an election that is still about 11 days away, when in politics even 24 hours is enough to change the dynamics?” he asked. According to Bashiru, Adeleke’s comments reflected anxiety over what he described as the growing popularity of the APC and its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO. He argued that the governor should instead account for his administration’s performance, alleging that several roads across the state remained in poor condition while the education sector continued to suffer from a shortage of about 30,000 teachers. “If those roads had been fixed, they would have stimulated economic activities across the state. If the shortage of teachers had been addressed, thousands of jobs would have been created while improving the quality of education,” he said. Bashiru also maintained that Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 presidential election would not translate into electoral support for the governor. “The endorsement of President Tinubu is not a guarantee that Governor Adeleke will secure a second term. He must face the electorate and account for his stewardship,” he added. He further claimed that the large crowds attending the party’s campaign rallies across the state had unsettled the governor, prompting what he described as attempts to gain public sympathy through allegations against the ruling party. Similarly, the Osun State chapter of the APC accused Adeleke of fuelling political tension and attempting to shift responsibility for the state’s security challenges to Tinubu and former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. In a statement signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC described Adeleke’s allegations as “misplaced, frivolous and unsubstantiated.” “The unsubstantiated allegations of Governor Adeleke, who covers his inadequacy by resorting to dancing when an injection of intellect is needed, against President Tinubu and former Governor Oyetola are misplaced and frivolous. They amount to nothing more than an attempt to justify his imminent defeat in the forthcoming governorship election,” Olabisi said. It also accused the governor of granting questionable amnesty to convicted political thugs and appointing some of them to public offices. “The discerning public deserves to know why, just days before the governorship election, the governor has allegedly been granting questionable amnesty to dangerous political thugs serving various jail terms in correctional centres across the state,” the statement read in part. The APC further argued that Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition was voluntary and should not be used as a basis for seeking political concessions. “Why the worry if it is true that Governor Adeleke has performed well? The August 15 governorship election will provide the electorate with the opportunity to assess his claims,” Olabisi added. Osun State will hold its governorship election on August 15, with Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party seeking a second term against the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The campaign has been marked by accusations and counter-accusations between the two major parties over political violence, security concerns and alleged attempts to influence the electoral process.

2027: Sani, Abbas ask Kaduna APC to Deliver Two Million Votes

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Tuesday charged the newly elected State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress in the state to deliver no fewer than two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The directive came as Isaac Atiku Sankay emerged as the consensus chairman of the party during the state congress held at Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna. Sankay, born in 1983, is the current Special Adviser on Peace and Conflict Resolution to the Governor and was adopted by stakeholders after consultations across the 23 local government areas of the state. Addressing delegates at the congress, Sani described the exercise as a defining moment in the continued consolidation of the APC in the state. “This congress reflects our internal cohesion and democratic discipline. It shows that Kaduna APC is united and prepared for the future,” the governor said. He disclosed that 6,885 ward executives were elected across the 255 wards in the state during the ward congresses. According to him, 621 local government executives also emerged from congresses conducted across the 23 local government areas. “At the state level, 36 executive members have been affirmed and sworn in. This underscores the strength of our party structure and our presence in every community,” Sani added. The governor maintained that the adoption of consensus candidates was not a sign of weakness but an indication of political maturity and unity. “Our focus is governance, development and electoral victory. We must begin mobilisation from the polling units and ensure alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated. In his remarks, Abbas urged the new executives to immediately swing into action and unite all factions within the party. “You must deliver over two million votes for President Tinubu and the same for Governor Uba Sani in 2027. That is the task before you,” the Speaker said. He commended the outgoing leadership for securing victories for the party in the 2015 and 2023 elections, expressing confidence that the 2027 target was achievable. In his acceptance speech, Sankay thanked God and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the trust. “I will serve with discipline, courage and measurable results. We will strengthen internal democracy, deepen grassroots mobilisation and create opportunities for youth and women participation,” he said. The outgoing State Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (retd.), thanked party faithful for their support during his eight-year tenure, noting that he was leaving behind a more united and formidable APC in Kaduna State.

APC Plans Appearance as US Congress Debates ‘Christian genocide’ Today

The United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress has requested to testify today (Thursday) before the United States House Subcommittee on Africa as American lawmakers prepare to review former President Donald Trump’s redesignation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious persecution. In a letter forwarded to the Subcommittee Chairman, Chris Smith, the APC USA said it was prepared to lead a high-level delegation to provide what it described as firsthand intelligence and verifiable data on Nigeria’s security landscape. The APC USA Chairman, Prof Tai Balofin, disclosed this in a statement added available to journalists in Abuja. Balofin said that while the party supports religious freedom for all Nigerians, global discourse on the matter often fails to reflect the full complexity of the nation’s insecurity challenges. He said the delegation was ready to appear before Congress at short notice. “The narrative that is sometimes presented abroad risks oversimplifying a complex security crisis driven by banditry, resource conflicts, climate stress, and transnational crime, not solely by religious persecution. We owe it to the American people and to millions of Nigerians to ensure Congress hears the complete picture before conclusions are drawn.” Balofin said the group’s planned testimony would highlight what it considers notable security gains under President Bola Tinubu. He added, “These include progress in degrading terrorist networks, improvements in community-based early-warning systems, and initiatives that promote interfaith harmony. Recent reductions in attacks across several hotspots have been documented by both Nigerian authorities and independent international monitors.” The APC USA also plans to present proposals for stronger U.S.–Nigeria cooperation on security, intelligence sharing and humanitarian support, arguing that such collaboration is vital for protecting all religious groups without undermining diplomatic relations. He said, “Chairman Chris Smith has been a consistent champion for human rights and religious liberty worldwide. We respectfully ask him to grant APC USA—the official voice of Nigeria’s democratically elected government in the United States—the opportunity to contribute to a fair, accurate, and solution-oriented discussion.” The development comes hours after Nigeria faulted the United States for excluding it from a UN event hosted by American rapper Nicki Minaj on alleged killings of Nigerians from a particular faith group. Nigeria’s chargé d’affaires to the UN, Syndoph Endoni, condemned the exclusion, saying deciding Nigeria’s case without Nigerian representation amounted to “shaving our head in our absence.” The event, held at the UN headquarters in New York with the backing of the U.S. Mission, was organised amid renewed U.S. allegations of Christian persecution in Nigeria — accusations Nigeria has repeatedly denied. Endoni said, “It is important to ensure the country concerned in the ongoing allegations of genocide against Christians is present, aware and has a voice in the matter. This is because you should not make important decisions or take action on something that involves a country without their presence or consent.” He expressed disappointment that while a few countries and even a Nigerian pastor were invited, officials of the Nigerian government were deliberately left out. According to him, U.S. officials later explained that the event was “private” and that the organisers demanded no Nigerian government representatives be invited due to fears of “reprisals” against participants. Endoni warned that such unilateral actions could escalate tensions, adding that both countries could more effectively address insecurity by working together and ensuring inclusive engagement. The Nigerian envoy said Abuja would continue to engage Washington over killings by extremist groups and collaborate on efforts to protect lives and property nationwide. The PUNCH had earlier reported that the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa will on Thursday, November 20, 2025, examine President Donald Trump’s recent redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. The CPC designation, if ratified by the Senate, would allow the US to impose sanctions on Nigerian officials found complicit in religious persecution and limit certain forms of bilateral assistance. It also signals to the international community that religious freedom in Nigeria remains under serious threat. The hearing, scheduled for 11:00 am in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building and available via live webcast, will be chaired by Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ). It will feature two panels of witnesses, including senior US State Department officials and Nigerian religious leaders. The invite to the members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, sighted by It reads, “You are respectfully requested to attend an open hearing of the Committee on Foreign Affairs to be held by the Subcommittee on Africa at 11:00 a.m. in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.” According to the invite, panelists will include Senior Bureau Official of the Bureau of African Affairs, Jonathan Pratt, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Jacob McGee. The second panel will feature the Director of the Center for Religious Freedom, Ms Nina Shea; Bishop Wilfred Anagbe of Makurdi Catholic Diocese in Nigeria; and Ms Oge Onubogu of the Center for Strategic & International Studies. The congressional hearing is expected to review not only the scope of religious persecution in Nigeria but also potential policy responses, including targeted sanctions, humanitarian assistance, and collaboration with Nigerian authorities to prevent further violence. On October 31, 2025, President Trump designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern for religious freedom violations. The move has sparked debate over rising attacks on Christians in Nigeria and the possibility of US intervention. In designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” Trump cited alleged severe violations of religious freedom, particularly the persecution of Christians. He claimed that Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria, with thousands of Christians being killed by radical Islamists. Trump warned that the US would take action, including potential military intervention, if Nigeria did not address the issue. The US President also threatened to halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria should President Bola Tinubu’s administration fail to end the alleged persecution and killing of Christians. “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop … Read more

JUST IN: Kano Rep Jibrin Rejoins APC, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Bid

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress and declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Jibrin, who had left the APC in May 2022, made the announcement during a political gathering in his hometown, Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday. Announcing his defection on his Facebook page on Monday, Jibrin said his supporters had unanimously resolved to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to align with the APC. He wrote, “Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office. “From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from my constituency have prayed special prayers for the President and sought peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria altogether.” Jibrin’s return to the APC comes barely two months after he resigned from the NNPP, following his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues. Reacting to his suspension at the time, Jibrin described the action as “shocking and unjustified,” insisting that an interview he granted in both English and Hausa, which the party cited as the basis for his suspension, did not warrant such a “heavy penalty.” He faulted the NNPP for violating the principles of fair hearing and due process, saying he was expelled without an opportunity to defend himself. The federal lawmaker said that he had accepted the decision in good faith and would not challenge it in court. On claims that he defaulted in the payment of his membership dues, the lawmaker maintained that he had never neglected his obligations. Taking a swipe at the party’s leadership style, the former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups accused the NNPP of failing to value its members. Jibrin, however, thanked the NNPP for the support he enjoyed during his stay, and called on his supporters to join him in his “new journey,” while maintaining peaceful ties with those who choose to remain in the party. Jibrin’s return marks a significant boost for the APC in Kano, especially as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Benue Rep Member Dumps PDP for APC

A member of the House of Representatives representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Ojema Ojotu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress. The Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu, who presided over Tuesday’s plenary session, announced Ojotu’s defection and read the lawmaker’s defection letter on the floor of the Green Chamber. Before now, the APC produced 10 out of the 11 members that represent the various constituencies of the North Central State in the Green Chamber. With Ojotu’s defection, the ruling APC is now in full control of all Benue federal seats in the House of Representatives. In a letter read on the floor by Kalu, Ojotu anchored his decision to leave the PDP on the perennial crisis involving the PDP. “After consultation with his constituents, family members and political associates, I have decided to dump the PDP for the APC,” he said. The defection was not without a challenge from the opposition as the House Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, called on the presiding officer to declare Ojotu’s seat vacant. He said, “Honourable Speaker, I rely on Constitutional Point of Order 68 (1) (g), which says that a member’s seat should be declared vacant if he leaves the party that sponsored his election, and if there is no division in that party that brought him to power.” His Point of Order was countered by the House Majority Leader, Ibrahim Halims, who relied on Order 7 to argue that “When there is an unresolved crisis in a party and that party cannot resolve its crisis, the person concerned can leave to protect his future.” In his remarks, the deputy speaker welcomed Ojotu to the APC and assured him of the support of the party at all times. Ojotu is the Chairman of the House Committee on Inland Waterways.
