The fuel scarcity crisis in Nigeria has resulted in the tragic death of Oluwatuyi Olasoji, chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for Akure South Local Government.

Olasoji collapsed while waiting to purchase fuel at a filling station in Akure, Ondo State, last week.

Despite being rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Owo for emergency surgery, he succumbed to his condition on Monday, September 9.

The fuel shortage has led to severe nationwide disruptions, with long queues at petrol stations, skyrocketing transport fares, and worsening traffic conditions leaving many commuters stranded.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has acknowledged the crisis, attributing it to market deregulation and fluctuating exchange rates.

They have promised improvements as the Dangote Refinery is expected to begin fuel lifting in mid-September.
