Ogun Polytechnic Expels 365 Students Over Fake Results, Forged Transcript

Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, have expelled 365 students for securing admission into the institution with forged academic credentials and falsified documents. This was according to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Mr Yemi Ajibola and made available to journalists on Monday. The affected students, all enrolled in various Higher National Diploma programmes, were found to have presented fake National Diploma results and forged academic transcripts from different institutions to facilitate their admission into the Polytechnic. Ajibola said that “The expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted on the credentials submitted by students during the admission and registration processes. “This decision underscores the Institution’s commitment to sanitising the academic system and reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against fraudulent practices and other forms of academic misconduct” He added that the distribution of the expelled students showed that the School of Communication and Information Technology was worse hit with 156, followed by the School of Business and Management Studies with 117 students, the School of Science and Technology with 54, the School of Engineering with 36, while the School of Environmental Studies had only two students. The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Koye Jolaoso, has therefore cautioned prospective applicants and admission seekers against the use of fake academic credentials to gain admission into the Institution. Dr Jolaoso said that the decisive action reflects the polytechnic’s commitment to upholding academic integrity, promoting excellence, and repositioning the 47-year-old Institution as a model of transparency, credibility, and professionalism in tertiary education.

Former Lawmaker Dismisses Ogun Opposition as no Threat to Yayi

A lawyer and federal Lawmaker,Kayode Oladele, has expressed confidence that opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress,are unlikely to pose a serious challenge in Ogun State’s 2027 governorship election, pointing to weak leadership, declining party structures, and the increasing dominance of the ruling party. In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, Oladele said the PDP weakened its own position by planning to re-present its 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, for the 2027 governorship race, arguing that the decision raises doubts about the competence and capacity required to govern a complex and economically strategic state. He said, “The issue goes beyond personal ambition and touches on fairness and sound political judgment. Without pre-empting, Adebutu’s emergence from the same Remo axis as the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, would further complicate the PDP’s position on equity and balanced representation. “There is a growing resistance among stakeholders and voters to producing another governor from the Remo axis, so the prevailing mood favours a more inclusive distribution of power across the state’s senatorial districts.” He added that opposition parties are steadily losing relevance, pointing to ongoing defections of their members to the All Progressives Congress as evidence of weakening internal structures and declining confidence. “There is a clear shift in the political environment. Key figures and grassroots supporters from opposition parties are aligning with the APC because they recognise where the strength lies,” he said. Oladele maintained that the most decisive factor shaping the 2027 race is the rising popularity of the APC consensus candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi. He described Yayi’s emergence as the outcome of wide consultations and party cohesion, with growing acceptance across different segments of the state. “The momentum is evident. Across Ogun State, there is increasing support for Senator Adeola Yayi. His track record, political reach and grassroots connection have positioned him as the candidate to beat. “Yayi is like a movement that no opposition can withstand or stop. It is God’s agenda, a divine assignment whose time has come, and the good people of the state have equally aligned with this reality,” he said. Oladele stressed that governance in Ogun State demands more than ambition, noting that it requires proven leadership, strategic depth and the ability to manage a diverse population and a fast-growing economy. “The responsibility of leading Ogun State cannot be reduced to ambition. It requires capacity, experience and a clear understanding of the state’s development path,” he added. Reinforcing his position, Oladele described the APC as the dominant political force in the state with a strong institutional base and broad appeal among voters. He said the party’s unity and ability to manage internal interests continue to strengthen its electoral prospects. The former lawmaker concluded that with the APC’s cohesion, expanding support base and the perceived limitations of the opposition, the 2027 contest is already tilting in favour of the ruling party. “As things stand, the opposition lacks both the structure and the momentum to compete effectively. The APC remains firmly in control, and the people of Ogun State are aligning with a future they can trust,” Oladele said.

Man Impregnates Daughter Five Times in Ogun

A man resident in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, identified as Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, has been arrested by officers of the state police command for allegedly sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter five times and procuring illegal abortions for the hapless 21-year-old. The victim, whose name was withheld, alleged that her father had subjected her to sexual abuse since 2019, with the suspect allegedly procuring five illegal abortions for her. The victim had reportedly lost her mother as an infant, after which her father placed her in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State, and later took her to Ijebu Ode in 2019 under the pretence of guardianship. She alleged that her father began sexually abusing her in 2019 and continued the abuse over several years, leading to five pregnancies, which he helped terminate. When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the suspect’s arrest on Monday. Babaseyi said that the victim claimed to have escaped from her father’s residence on Sunday, February 1, 2026, due to the excessive harassment, and relocated to a church in Pakoto mountain. He explained that the 21-year old later reported these callous acts of her father to the police officers at Ifo. Babaseyi said, “On 26/03/2026, one ‘F’, aged 21 years, reported at Ifo Division that she had been subjected to sexual abuse by her biological father, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi ‘M’. “The victim stated that after losing her mother as an infant, her father placed her in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State, and later took her to Ijebu Ode in 2019 under the pretense of guardianship. “The complainant alleged that her father began sexually abusing her in 2019 and continued the abuse over several years. “During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured abortion for each pregnancy. “On 1st February 2026, she bravely escaped from her father’s residence due to the excessive harassment, and relocated to a church in Pakoto Mountain via “Thanks to the swift and decisive leadership of CSP Kamorudeen, DPO Ifo, operatives of the Ifo Division acted immediately on a tip-off and successfully arrested the suspect, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi ‘M’. “The suspect is now in police custody, and preliminary investigations are ongoing. Ogun Shuts School Over Suspected Gas Leak

The Ogun State Government has ordered the closure of Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode and launched an investigation following a suspected gas leak that hospitalised about 30 students. The incident occurred shortly after the school assembly on Wednesday, causing panic as a gaseous substance spread across the premises. PUNCH Metro gathered that more than 30 persons, including students and staff members, reportedly struggled to breathe. However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, said Governor Dapo Abiodun had directed security agencies to determine the cause of the incident, noting that the outcome of the investigation would help prevent a recurrence. The governor also ordered the immediate closure of the affected school. “Governor Abiodun has also directed the immediate opening of a Situation Room at the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, which will offer free treatment to other students and residents of the impacted areas such as Makalewo, Ogbogbo, Molipa, Igbegba, Ikoto and Oke-Aje market,” the statement added. Residents of areas including Makalewo, Ogbogbo, Molipa, Igbegba, Ikoto and Oke-Aje were advised not to panic, as the government said there was no confirmed security threat linked to the incident. Oresanya said officials of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency had deployed gas analysers to determine the source and nature of the substance. The statement noted that Oresanya, alongside other government officials, visited the school and the hospital where the victims were receiving treatment. The commissioner added that most of the affected students and teachers were in stable condition. The school’s Vice Principal (Junior School), Adeola Borogun, dismissed reports of an explosion, describing the incident as the presence of a strange chemical smell within the premises. There is tension in parts of Ogun and Lagos states over rumours that there is deadly rice in circulation. Parents and relatives send voice messages to their loved ones, warning them against buying or consuming rice at this time because a foreign trader had invoked the spirit of Ogun deity after her two trucks of rice were stolen and smuggled into Nigeria. In various voice notes forwarded to our correspondent, the speakers maintained that two trucks of rice were stolen from a neighbouring country and were later smuggled into Nigeria through the Idiroko border and the Seme border. It was stated that the owner of the bags of rice, a woman, contacted some Ogun worshipers in Ghana to lay curses on whoever buys or consumes the alleged stolen rice. In a voice note, it was rumoured that some Customs officers and a soldier had died in Badagry, Lagos State. It was also alleged by another sender on WhatsApp that over 70 persons had died in the past few days after buying or consuming the said rice. Imported rice from the Benin Republic remains one of the most consumed staples in Nigeria, especially by children and the youth. As the warnings keep getting to people in Ogun and Lagos, they pass the same to their loved ones, emphasising to them that rice must not be consumed or bought at this time. A resident in the Ipokia Local Government of Ogun State, Morayo, told our correspondent on Wednesday that some parents went to schools, telling the food vendors not to sell rice to their children. As some individuals tried to debunk the rumour, more voice notes came from different people, claiming their alleged confirmation of the deaths. This has left many confused as to whether to buy rice or not. However, the Nigerian Customs Service in Lagos and Ogun debunked the claims, saying there was no deadly rice in circulation. In a statement by the NCS, Seme Area Command, Public Relations Officer, Isah Sulaiman, said the narrative was entirely false, misleading, and did not reflect the reality of the matter. “The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area command, has been drawn to a widely circulated unfounded and baseless allegation claiming that the Command seized and distributed bags of rice without the knowledge of the purported owner, who then allegedly invoked traditional powers leading to the death of individuals, including a soldier at Badagry. “The command wishes to categorically state that this narrative is entirely false, misleading, and does not reflect the reality of the matter,” the statement said. It disclosed that the command had always adhered to NCS Standard Operating Procedures for disposing of seized goods, which is guided by transparency, due process, and strict adherence to extant laws and guidelines. “It is instructive to say that no incident within the Command’s Area of Responsibility or among personnel corroborates the false claims of deaths resulting from rice consumption linked to the NCS. “Unfortunately, some unscrupulous elements wearing the garment of journalism (a credible profession) to disinform members of the public with baseless, fictitious and malicious accusations to score cheap points instead of the social responsibility they are supposed to uphold,” the command added. The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into an explosion at Quantum Steel, located along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Road in Ogijo, which left seven workers, including three expatriates, injured. The blast, which occurred on Wednesday, was reported at the Ogijo Police Division by a staff member of the company, Joseph Adewale. Those injured include four Nigerians—Daniel Bala, 28; Mutiu Olajide, 39; Godwin Solomon, 27; and Maduabuchi Onwe, 27—as well as three expatriates, Ajun Kumar, 37; Chandan Kumar, 50; and Rakash Kumar, 30. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, saying the explosion was caused by machinery failure. The wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has been abducted from her residence in the Arepo area of Ogun State. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the abduction in a statement released to PUNCH Online on Friday. The victim was reportedly abducted by four masked men who attacked her, pulled her out of her Lexus Jeep, and drove away with her late Thursday night. The spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, said “Information was received regarding the kidnapping of Mrs Odumosu, resident of Aminu Street, Arepo. The family of a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, has raised the alarm over her disappearance in the Sango Ota area of Ogun State. PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday that the incident happened on Monday close to where the girl’s mother operated a Point of Sale terminal in the community. It was gathered that a yet-to-be-identified male adult said to be the mother’s regular customer visited the shop, bought food for the seven-year-old girl, and later sent her on an errand to buy a sachet of water. On her return, the customer left the spot and approached her midway in an attempt to collect the water sachet. The nephew of the victim who identified himself simply as Jude told our correspondent on Thursday that the mother sighted both of them at that moment but was distracted by the attention of other customers. Jude said by the time she turned towards the daughter’s direction to check what was happening, both of them were nowhere to be found. He said, “The man had been visiting her store regularly to withdraw money and buy recharge cards. He had become friendly with the girl and would often buy her food and give her money. He doesn’t stay in the area. On Monday morning, which was December 23, the man visited the stall again and bought food for himself and the girl. “While the mother was busy attending to other customers, the man sent the girl to buy pure water. On her way back, he approached her halfway to get the sachet water from her. The mum saw this and wasn’t comfortable with it but was distracted by the attention of other customers. By the time she turned towards the daughter’s direction to check what was happening, the guy and her daughter were nowhere to be found.” Jude said the mother immediately launched a search for her daughter but did not find her. He added that repeated calls made to the man’s phone were not responded to while his line was no longer reachable. The girl’s cousin had through his X handle, Miyakee, disclosed that the incident was reported at the nearest police station in the community. He stated that the mother was asked to pay N10,000 to report the case and also told to bring N30,000 to track the man’s phone number. “We have reported to a police station in Sango and the struggling mom has been asked to pay a total of 10k to report the case (she has done that). And to bring N30,000 for the guy’s phone number to be tracked. She’ll be going back there tomorrow to pay. “As it is now. Work has not even started. She only paid N8000 to write her statement at the station and a total of N2000 to print out pictures of the missing girl. Then to track the phone number, she has to pay the sum of N30,000 and get a court affidavit to take to MTN office,” he wrote. He however lamented that efforts to get a court affidavit were not successful due to the holiday. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, did not respond to calls made to her phone. She had yet to reply to a WhatsApp message sent to her as of the time this report was filed.

Oyo To Collaborate With Ogun On Agriculture

Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has said that his administration and that of the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, would engage in a peer-review meeting in the New Year with a view to collaborating on areas critical to residents of both states. Governor Makinde said this while receiving Abiodun in Ibadan, on Monday, noting that the collaboration would see the two states exploring opportunities in the agriculture sector, especially the tractorisation policy and other areas. Makinde also appreciated Governor Abiodun, chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, who said his visit was to condole with the Oyo State Government over the deaths of 35 children in a stampede at a private funfair in Ibadan. He said: “Your Excellency, thank you so much for the visit. We appreciate you being with us at this difficult period. “My brother’s visit presented an opportunity to also rub minds. We were talking about tractorisation and the strategy they have adopted in Ogun State as well as what we are doing here. “We agreed that we will have a peer-review visit in the New Year so that we can leverage the good things happening there and they can also leverage the good things happening here.” Speaking earlier, the Ogun State governor expressed the condolences of the people of the state and the Southern Governors’ Forum to Governor Makinde over the unfortunate incident. He described the event that led to the deaths of innocent children as a good initiative that turned bad, advising non-governmental organisations that have such initiatives to always work with the government for proper planning when organising such charity programmes. Abiodun prayed for the repose of the souls of the children, who lost their lives, their bereaved parents and the people of Oyo State. He said: “I am here on behalf of myself, family, the entire people of Ogun State and the entire Southern Governors’ Forum of Nigeria. “We have come to commiserate with the governor and the entire people of Oyo State on the very unfortunate incident that happened on Wednesday 18th of December, 2024, where a good initiative turned sour. “We all woke up to the news the following day and I decided to come on behalf of all of us and condole with the governor and the people as well as the government of Oyo State. “The entire Southern governors are pained by this occurrence. In Ogun State, we believe anything that affects Oyo State affects us as well. Our prayer is that we won’t witness such an occurrence again. “We will continue to remember all those affected in our prayers.”

32-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide Using Sniper Inside Hotel Room In Ogun

A 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, on Thursday, October 10, ended his own life in a hotel where he lodged on Soyoye Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State, by taking an insecticide popularly known as Sniper. Thenewsbearer learnt that the deceased had come to the hotel where he told those in charge that he was there for a short rest. However, the receptionist, after noticing that the deceased had yet to come out after the lapse of the time he was supposed to spend, went to check on him, only to discover his lifeless body on the bed. Shocked by the discovery, the receptionist was said to have gone to the hotel manager to notify him of the incident. On learning of it, Thenewsbearer further gathered that the manager raised an alarm and quickly put a call through to the owner of the hotel, while the scene was cordoned off, leaving the exhibits untouched. This made the owner, Odeyemi Adeboye, to promptly go to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Lafenwa Division to lodge a report of suicide. The command’s image maker, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said that detectives swiftly went to the scene where they found Ogungbe’s body on the bed, alongside an empty bottle of alcoholic drink and another bottle of insecticide known as Sniper, which were suspected to have been consumed by him. Saying that no sign of violence was found on the deceased, the PPRO stated his remains were evacuated to General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, for medical examination. After he was certified dead by doctors, SP Odutola said that the deceased’s body was deposited in the morgue for autopsy. She added that a thorough investigation is ongoing.
