Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State, signalling a major development in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. The registration took place on Monday, following Atiku’s announcement to ADC supporters and stakeholders in Adamawa over the weekend. Abdul Rasheeth, an aide to the former vice president, had confirmed the development in a statement obtained by PUNCH Online. Videos and photos from the event showed Atiku’s convoy arriving in the town to the cheers of supporters, who beat drums, sang, and carried placards with his image. Atiku waved and greeted well-wishers from his vehicle as he received his ADC membership card. Anti-Turaki Protesters Storm PDP Headquarters as Wike Faction Takes Over

Supporters of the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party have taken over the surrounding streets of Wadata Plaza, the edifice housing the Peoples Democratic Party headquarters, Wuse, Zone 5, Abuja. Comprising largely women and youth groups, the protesters carried placards with inscriptions targeted at the PDP National Chairman, Mr Tanimu Turaki, SAN. Some of the messages on the placards include “No to Turaki,” “Turaki must go,” among others. Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, emerged as the National Chairman of the PDP in a disputed convention on Saturday, boycotted by the Wike-led faction. On Monday, both camps gave notice of executive meetings at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the Wike-backed faction took over the secretariat as early as 9:45 am. Led by the sacked Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, the bloc stormed the secretariat building, accompanied by a legion of heavily-armed police personnel. The security personnel have taken strategic positions along the adjoining streets leading to the Secretariat and the edifice itself. The health outreach initiative held on Thursday funded with millions of naira by Dr. Amuda Hafeez Kingsway, a 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly aspirant, recorded a massive turnout and delivered comprehensive healthcare services to residents at no cost. According to the foundation, 58 medical experts were on ground, attending to residents simultaneously across various medical units, ensuring swift, efficient, and quality service delivery throughout the programme. In the general health services unit, 840 residents received medical attention, including full-body check-ups, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, health counselling, and free medications. Each beneficiary was assessed by trained clinicians, who provided tailored prescriptions and ensured drug quantities matched the appropriate dosage and usage duration for effective treatment. The dental unit also recorded significant results, attending to 92 individuals who underwent comprehensive consultations, scaling, polishing, and essential oral care procedures. Dental professionals provided guidance on oral hygiene while distributing required medications. At the eye care unit, 204 beneficiaries were screened and supported with free eyeglasses, eye drops, and other necessary medications. Specialists diagnosed various sight-related conditions and provided corrective solutions on the spot, ensuring that residents with impaired vision left with clearer, improved sight. The medical outreach also featured an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality where leaders, residents, and other beneficiaries enjoyed refreshments, while some went home with food packages, while entertainment, and a sense of communal togetherness enhanced the overall experience of the programme.

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress and declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Jibrin, who had left the APC in May 2022, made the announcement during a political gathering in his hometown, Kofa, Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday. Announcing his defection on his Facebook page on Monday, Jibrin said his supporters had unanimously resolved to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to align with the APC. He wrote, “Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. “The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office. “From the beginning, almost 2,000 scholars from my constituency have prayed special prayers for the President and sought peace, development, and progress for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria altogether.” Jibrin’s return to the APC comes barely two months after he resigned from the NNPP, following his expulsion over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues. Reacting to his suspension at the time, Jibrin described the action as “shocking and unjustified,” insisting that an interview he granted in both English and Hausa, which the party cited as the basis for his suspension, did not warrant such a “heavy penalty.” He faulted the NNPP for violating the principles of fair hearing and due process, saying he was expelled without an opportunity to defend himself. The federal lawmaker said that he had accepted the decision in good faith and would not challenge it in court. On claims that he defaulted in the payment of his membership dues, the lawmaker maintained that he had never neglected his obligations. Taking a swipe at the party’s leadership style, the former Director-General of the Tinubu Support Groups accused the NNPP of failing to value its members. Jibrin, however, thanked the NNPP for the support he enjoyed during his stay, and called on his supporters to join him in his “new journey,” while maintaining peaceful ties with those who choose to remain in the party. BREAKING: PDP Postpones Screening of Aspirants for National Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party has announced the postponement of the screening of aspirants for its 2025 Elective National Convention, earlier scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025. According to a statement issued on Monday by the Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, the exercise was put on hold due to “unforeseen circumstances.” Fintiri noted that a new date for the screening would be communicated to all aspirants and party members in due course, adding that the committee regretted any inconvenience the postponement might have caused. “A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement. “All aspirants and members of our Party should note the foregoing and be guided accordingly,” the statement added. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a credible and hitch-free national convention. PUNCH Online had reported that the party will hold its 2025 Elective National Convention between November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. PDP, in a statement issued on October 25, 2025, named a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee to vet aspirants for national offices ahead of the convention. According to the statement by the party’s National Convention Organising Committee and signed by its Chairman, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who is also the Governor of Adamawa State, the screening exercise will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The committee will be chaired by a former Ondo State governorship candidate and respected legal luminary, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN. The postponement comes a few hours after a key member of the party and former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, declared his intention to contest for the position of national chairman. This was even after the northern PDP stakeholders had earlier endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the chairmanship role. But some factions of PDP, including those allied to Lamido and another senior leader, Nyesom Wike, have rejected Turaki’s endorsement, arguing that the process lacked proper consultation, indicating growing tensions within the party, which has, over the mont,h see n its key members resign.

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday urged the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, to defend the integrity of Nigeria’s elections, describing credible polls as the bedrock of any democracy.
