Monarch, Residents, Dignitaries Commission NOUN Centre in Oyo Community

  The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof Shehu Usman Adamu representing the Vice Chancellor Prof Olufemi Peters, on Saturday in Fiditi Town, Oyo state, rallied the residents of the town led by its monarch, OniFiditi of Fiditi, HRM Oba Sakirulai Oyewole Oyelere, as well as, eminent dignitaries from all walks of life, to inaugurate a NOUN Study Centre for the community. The glamorous formal public commissioning was done after the DVC had facilitated approval of the operating licence for the centre in the community, a gesture described as monumental as it has quenched the residents’ thirst for an institution of higher learning. Many dignitaries joined the monarch at the epochal event, among them: Prof Shehu Usman Adamu; Coordinator, Fiditi Study Center NOUN, Prof John Ademola Oluokun; Director, Center for Human Resources Development, Kaduna, Prof Umar Aminu; Chairman BOYEF, Engr. Lateef Busari; Sen. Dr. Bode Olajumoke; National President FIGSOSA, Engr Tade Ipadeola and Project Executive NOUN Fiditi Study Center, Ayobami Olubiyi, as well as, and members of his committee and other top officials of NOUN from Abuja. While welcoming the delightful dignitaries to the venue, Oba Oyelere appreciated the Almighty God, “the giver of life and wisdom, for granting us the privilege to witness this historic commissioning of the Fiditi Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria. I extend my deepest appreciation to the good people of Fiditi Homeland, whose steadfast support and unity have made this day possible. I also pay special tribute to our dear friend and the Most Distinguished Senator, Dr. Bode Olajumoke, for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in ensuring that this vision has become a reality. Truly, today we celebrate not only the birth of an institution but the dawn of new opportunities for our people”. The monarch encouraged all Fiditi indigenes and indeed the entire Oyo Central Senatorial District and Oyo State in general who are aspiring for higher learning “to dust off their certificates and prepare to register once admission opens. Education remains the bedrock of development, and together we must seize this opportunity to uplift our community, empower our youth, and strengthen our future. We shall work hand in hand to nurture and grow this Study Centre, and by the grace of God, we shall excel. As the Lord lives, this is only the beginning. We have many more projects to execute, and with the same spirit of unity and determination that has brought us here today, we shall accomplish them together”. In his address, the Chairman Fiditi Study Centre Committee, Prof John Ademola Oluokun, said, “No doubt about it the location of the study centre in Fiditi will quench our thirst to some extent for an institution of higher learning. I know that our dream for a full fledged conventional University either government owned or privately owned will knock at our door one day. He appreciated the great donors who made the project a reality, including: “Unity Bank which renovated Science building; Late Chief Pekun Adesokan who renovated Computer building; Alhaji Dr. Ademola Alli who sponsored Kiosk construction; Alhaji Aare Omiteru, Bishop S. Adegbite, Dr. Bode Olajumoke, Engr. Olufemi Babalola Jogor, Rear Admiral Babatunde Egbedina, among others. The Project Execution Executive, Ayobami Olubiyi, x-rayed the journey culminated in the inauguration of the Study Center, noting that “it began in September 2023, and was marked by resilience, collaboration, and faith, but each challenge strengthened our resolve”, adding that, ” We look forward with anticipation to admitting the first set of students in the third quarter of 2026. This milestone will mark the beginning of a new chapter, where dreams are nurtured, potentials are unlocked, and futures are shaped”, he said. Giving his remarks, the facilitator of Bode Olajumoke Youth Empowerment Foundation and an Old student of Fiditi Grammar School, Sen. Dr. Bode Olajumoke, thanked Professor Olufemi Peters for the honour of granting the community’s request, while seizing the opportunity to congratulate the indigenes and resident of Fiditi Town for the remarkable feat. He urged them to make good use of the opportunity of the higher institution sited in their domain to upgrade themselves.

Akinyele Residents Benefit as Amuda Hafeez Kingsway Holds Free Medical Outreach

  In a renewed effort to promote community health and improve access to quality medical care at the grassroots, Dr. Amuda Hafeez Kingsway, a 2027 Oyo State House of Assembly aspirant, is set to host a free comprehensive medical outreach for residents of Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan. The initiative, organized under the Kingsway Community Health Outreach in collaboration with Grace For Impact, will hold on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Akinyele Local Government Secretariat, Funduk, Moniya, beginning at 9:00 a.m. prompt. This edition marks one of the most extensive health interventions under the Kingsway Community Health Outreach programme. Unlike previous editions that focused mainly on general consultations and basic medical services, this year’s outreach will feature a wider range of specialized care — including general health checks, professional counselling, dental and eye care. Residents will have access to free medical consultations, essential medications, and vital sign assessments such as blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, and height checks. In addition, dental and optical care units will operate on-site to provide expanded services. For the first time, beneficiaries will receive free dental screenings, scaling, and polishing, aimed at promoting better oral hygiene. The outreach will also include comprehensive eye examinations, free eye drops, and eyeglasses, bringing much-needed relief to residents suffering from untreated vision challenges, particularly among low-income earners. Speaking ahead of the event, Dr. Hafeez Kingsway reaffirmed his commitment to advancing community wellness beyond campaign promises. “Healthcare should not be a privilege but a right accessible to every citizen, regardless of social or economic status. “This outreach is not just about giving out free drugs or conducting tests; it is about restoring hope, building a healthier community, and ensuring that even the most vulnerable have access to quality medical care.” He said. Beyond treating illnesses, the programme will also provide health education and professional counselling, guiding beneficiaries on lifestyle changes, preventive care, and the importance of follow-up support. Dr. Hafeez emphasized that the broader goal is to foster long-term wellness through continuous community engagement and accessible healthcare delivery. It would be recalled that Hon. Amuda Hafeez, through his foundation, had earlier organized a health outreach for political party leaders, including ward chairmen, women leaders, and other stakeholders in Akinyele State Constituency 1 — a gesture that earned him commendations from beneficiaries and community leaders alike.

Ibadan Building Collapse: Oyo Police Command Confirms Casualties, Promises Adequate Security Of Residents In Affected Area

  Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan under the leadership of the state commissioner of Police, CP Sonubi Ayodele has on Thursday confirmed the building collapse incident that have claimed no fewer than 10 lives in Ibadan metroplis. A statement issued to the effect by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed that 10 persons have lost their lives to the sad incident. SP Osifeso noted that eight victims are currently receiving treatment following various degrees of injuries sustained at the cause of the incident. A copy of the statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State stated that; “Today being Thursday 31/10/2024 around 0200hrs, a Storey building located around Ojugbede Jegede Area, Ogbere collapsed leading to the immediate loss of (10) Ten Lives while (8) Eight others are currently battling with various degrees of life threatening injuries. “Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the Area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction. “Investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstance that could have led to the incident. “Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”

We’ll Ensure Even Distribution Of Roads Rehabilitation,Oyo Govt. Assures Residents

  Residents of Oyo State have been assured of even distribution of rehabilitation, as the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, OYSROMA, continues to make efforts to rehabilitate roads in the State. The Chairman, OYSROMA, Mr. Raphael Ogunlade gave the assurance in Ibadan while inspecting some ongoing rehabilitation projects on Thursday. There have been numerous concerns from Oyo residents in other zones regarding the ongoing rehabilitation in the state, if it will be extended to all zones in Oyo state. Responding to the enquiries, Ogunlade said “Governor Seyi Makinde has assured the residents of Oyo state that this rehabilitation process is not only going to be done in Ibadan but will definitely extend to other zones till the whole Oyo state is covered.” Ogunlade, quoting the governor said, “he re-emphasised this at the Mobil – Akala road commissioning some months ago where he categorically mentioned that rehabilitation process like this will also be extended to Oyo, Ogbomosho and other zones, and he pleaded with Oyo state residents to exercise more patience as their convenience is him and his cabinets’ top priority.” The OYSROMA Chairman while inspecting a just concluded project, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his diligent efforts towards giving Oyo state the best road network and for giving listening ears and support to OYSROMA in making these projects a success. The chairman also assured the people that the rehabilitation exercise involves all the bridges damaged by the recent heavy rainfall, adding that they will be reconstructed as directed by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde “We are grateful to our Governor for his consistent effort in giving Oyo state the best in every sector and his commitment to this dream of making Oyo state roads the best in the country. We will also appreciate the residents of Oyo state for their continuous understanding and appreciate if they can be a bit more patient as every demand concerning Oyo state roads will be attended to as soon as possible”, he said.

LG Poll: Kaduna Residents Comply With Movement Restrictions

  Kaduna State residents on Saturday complied with the movement restriction imposed by the state government to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the local government elections. The usually bustling streets of Kaduna metropolis were deserted as eligible voters cast their ballots across the state. Shops and fuel stations were shut to residents. PUNCH Online reports that the Kaduna State Security Council had announced a restriction of movement from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, to prevent potential security breaches. The commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, had explained that the restriction was necessary to guarantee the success of the elections. “The restriction of movement is aimed at preventing any individual or group from disrupting the electoral process. We want to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and without any incidents,” Aruwan had said. Residents heeded the warning, staying off the streets while those eligible and willing to exercise their civic responsibility went to their voting centers to cast their votes. However, some voting centres experienced delays, with officials and materials yet to arrive as of noon. A troubled voter lamented, “Up till now, no SIECOM officials and voting materials for votes to commence. We have been waiting since morning, and it’s disappointing to see that the officials are not here yet.” James Alechenu, another voter, expressed frustration over the delay. “They (SIECOM) know what they are doing. The next thing we will hear is that the ruling All Progressives Congress has cleared all the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.” Despite these challenges, the elections took place across 255 wards and 23 local government councils. Road users, especially those travelling from other parts of the state, were stopped and searched by police. However, there was scant police presence in major areas such as Barnawa, Narayi, and along the Kachia roads. Anambra Evacuates Residents From Flood-Prone Areas

  The Anambra State government has commenced the immediate evacuation of those living in riverine areas due to a rapid rise in water levels in the Niger and Benue rivers over the past few days. The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chief Paul Odenigbo, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Awka, the Anambra state capital. On Thursday, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) issued a fresh alert urging communities along coastal lines to relocate without further delay. Chief Odenigbo stated that the state government had provided the necessary support to relocate people to safer areas and mitigate the worsening impacts of the floods as rainfall persists. He noted that in some local governments, plans had been finalised to use boats to evacuate over 3,000 inhabitants willing to move to higher ground. According to him, Governor Charles Soludo has made available essential items for those in various holding camps in the state to ensure they are comfortable during their stay. Items distributed to the local government areas of Ogbaru, Anambra West, and Ayamelum include blankets, mattresses, buckets, and cartons of soap and detergents. The SEM boss stated that the camps had been well prepared with conveniences, water supply, and other relevant logistics provided by the government. Chief Odenigbo urged the public to heed the latest warnings from relevant agencies and to pack essential items such as certificates, documents, and medications that they will need while in the camps.   Oyo State Government is set to screen Three Hundred and Forty seven thousand, three hundred and four (347, 304) individuals as ‘Project 10 Million Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers’ commences in Ibadan. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi stated this at the unveiling of the Project 10 Million with the members of the State Executive Cabinet at the office of the Governor. According to the Commissioner, the Project 10 Million is a nationwide screening initiative, aimed at screening 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes across the 36 states of Nigeria and the FCT within a 7 days period in October, 2024. Dr. Ajetumobi explained that the objective of the project is to screen 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes, promoting early detection, prevention, and control of cardiometabolic diseases, using the slogan – “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers” She added that “knowing your vital health metrics empowers you to take timely actions and make the right decision concerning your health, while controlling them prevents complications that may arise from ignorance or neglect”. The Commissioner added that the screening will include blood pressure and blood sugar tests to detect hypertension and diabetes, alongside other anthropometric measurements that pertain to the health of the heart, blood vessels and general body metabolim processes. She stressed that the screening process is safe and uses standard, point-of-care testing. “The Nigerian Health Commissioner’s Forum is initiating the project and executing in partnership with professional bodies, developmental agencies, and Donors. Project 10 Million will utilize a team of trained healthcare workers who will visit various communities within each state. They will set up temporary screening stations at designated locations, making the screening accessible to the community”, she said. The Commissioner concluded that everyone aged 18 years and above are eligible for the screening and the screening is absolutely free. “This means that you do not have to make any payment for the registration as well as other services accessed during the screening exercise”. Dr. Ajetumobi said participants will receive their test results and counseling on the spot. People who have abnormal results will receive some first contact care or be referred to nearby government-owned health facilities for further evaluation, treatment and follow-up care, she said.  

Oyo Government Restores Water Supply, Promises Enhanced Service for Residents

  The Oyo Water Corporation on Saturday said it has restored water supply to residents in some parts of the State, after many years of service disruption due to technical challenges faced by the Corporation. The Corporation added that repairs of leakages and burst on other water pipelines located within the State is ongoing. A statement issued by the Corporation’s Chairman, Hon.Elias Adeojo, said operations have since commenced at major waterworks and booster stations to complement water supply to Ibadan and environs. He said areas water supply has been restored to include Molete, Bode, Labiran, Beyeruka, Eleyele axis, Bashorun-Oluwo nla among others. While assuring residents of improved service delivery, he urged them to use it prudently. Hon. Adeojo added that efforts have been put in place to ensure prompt repairs of facilities as soon as they are detected or reported by the public. “The agency under my supervision would do everything possible to ensure that the recently restored potable water supply to Ibadan and environs is sustained” He, therefore, solicited the understanding of consumers in affected areas for any inconveniences and assured the general public of steady water supply afterwards as the corporation is working relentlessly to serve them better. “Let me assure residents of Ibadan and environs of adequate potable water supply as all factors like leakages and burst pipes mitigating against the Oyo State Water Corporation are being tackled with accurate precision”, he said. He added, “The Corporation would deploy it’s personnel and machine to restore potable water to other parts of the State as soon as all the faults in Ibadan are resolved”. Hon. Adeojo therefore called on residents of Ibadan to report detected pipe leakages and bursts on 08077033774 for prompt actions by the corporation’s engineers.

Vaccinate Your Dogs, Cats Against Rabies or Risk 250k Fine, Imprisonment – Oyo Govt Warns Residents

  Oyo State government through the ministry of Agriculture has mandated her residents to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies to curb the continuous spread of the disease. The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olaleye Olasunkanmi, who made this announcement in a recent statement added that offenders who fail to vaccinate their pets annually, in accordance with the Oyo State Dog Law of 2019 risk a fine of N250,000 or six months’ imprisonment, or both. Olasunkanmi who emphasised the importance of pet vaccinations further urged all dog and cat owners who have not yet vaccinated their pets to do so immediately by visiting the veterinary centres in the state. The commissioner further highlighted that research shows the majority of rabies cases result from dog bites, making it essential to keep dogs confined and to vaccinate them regularly. “The best way to prevent rabies in humans is by vaccinating dogs and cats at least once a year. Human rabies deaths, according to research, are 100 per cent preventable with prompt vaccination of dogs and cats,” he said. The commissioner added that it was a violation of the Oyp State Dog Law of 2019 to allow dogs to roam without their owners. He further noted that over 70 per cent of infectious diseases in humans originate from animals. Consequently, the government has adopted an all-inclusive approach to controlling rabies and other zoonotic diseases. As part of its efforts, the state has conducted free mass vaccinations for cattle under the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery initiative. The state Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, John Famoyin, commended the government for its initiatives to prevent zoonotic diseases. However, he urged the government at all levels to ensure the effective implementation of the Dog Law to enhance public health and safety.
