Orire Abduction: Oyo Police Command Launches Statewide Crackdown On Unmarked Vehicles, Fake Number Plates

  IBADAN — THE Oyo State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles and motorcycles with improper identification, as part of efforts to strengthen security and curb criminal activities across the state. The command said the operation is aimed at enforcing compliance with vehicle identification regulations while enhancing crime prevention and public safety. In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command disclosed that the exercise targets unmarked vehicles, fake or obscured number plates, and vehicles operating with illegally covered registration numbers. According to the police, the enforcement drive forms part of ongoing measures to dismantle criminal networks and improve the state’s overall security architecture. “The Oyo State Police Command, in furtherance of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment and in line with ongoing efforts to rid the state of violent crime and other forms of criminality, has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unmarked vehicular objects, fake and obscured number plates, as well as unauthorized covering of vehicle plates,” the statement read. The command warned that violators of vehicle identification regulations would face immediate arrest, while affected vehicles and motorcycles would be impounded in accordance with existing laws and operational guidelines. It stated that the exercise commenced on Thursday and would be sustained across the state. The police also announced plans to intensify stop-and-search operations, intelligence-driven patrols, and coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots. According to the command, there will be increased police visibility and strategic deployment of personnel across major roads, communities, and other critical locations in both urban and rural areas of the state. The police explained that the measures are designed to deter criminal activities, improve emergency response capabilities, and strengthen public confidence in law enforcement operations. “The Command will sustain intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led patrols, and coordinated raids of identified criminal blackspots across the state. There will also be increased police visibility and strategic deployment of personnel within key locations across urban and rural areas,” the statement added. Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel carrying out the operation. The command assured members of the public that all enforcement activities would be conducted professionally, lawfully, and with respect for fundamental human rights. “The Command appreciates the continued support and understanding of residents and assures that all operations will be conducted professionally, lawfully, and with due respect for human rights,” Olayinka stated.   No fewer than 15 suspected criminals were on Monday paraded at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan for their involvements in various anti-society activities such as cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and other illicit substances. The state Police Commissioner, CP Sonubi Ayodele while addressing journalists at the command over the development maintained that the Oyo State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order in accordance with the dictates of the constitution and other guiding instruments of the law. CP Sonubi noted that lately, the Command has received disturbing reports of cult related activities in some parts of the Metropolis particularly around Apete, Abayomi (Iwo-road axis), Ijokodo, Moniya, Monathan, Ojoo, Samonda and Sango areas of the State. He further said that “in response to the yearnings of the good people of the State regarding cult related activities, even as we navigate through the yuletide period, the Command is parading (15) Fifteen Male Suspects for offences ranging from; cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and other illicit banned substances. Items were also recovered during the intelligence led raids; (5) Five inscribed cultism jackets, (3) Three Dane Guns, (1) locally made Pistol (1) One Locally Made Cut-To-Size Gun, (1) One Long Barrel Gun, (1) One Red Toyota Camry with Reg NO. KTU 41 JH, (1) One Red Cloth (1) One Powder Blue Beret with Inscription and (3) Three Cutlasses, one black Honda with registration number GGE 64 FM Lagos. Among the suspects paraded at the command are, Ajayi Toheeb (Male), aged 26, Agbolahan Afeez (Male) aged 19, Amoo Ifeoluwa 25, Ajimude Mathew 26, Tomiwa Adeniyi 24. While Atoyebi Temitope, Ismail Lamidi, Rasheed Salawudeen, Babatola Adetunji Ajibade were paraded for cultism,conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and illegal substance. Others are Adeosun Jamiu, aged 31, Musedeen Lamidi 44, Quyum Adesokan 22, Adigun Samad, Kamorudeen Rasheed, Toheed Abass.

Ibadan Building Collapse: Oyo Police Command Confirms Casualties, Promises Adequate Security Of Residents In Affected Area

  Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan under the leadership of the state commissioner of Police, CP Sonubi Ayodele has on Thursday confirmed the building collapse incident that have claimed no fewer than 10 lives in Ibadan metroplis. A statement issued to the effect by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso confirmed that 10 persons have lost their lives to the sad incident. SP Osifeso noted that eight victims are currently receiving treatment following various degrees of injuries sustained at the cause of the incident. A copy of the statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State stated that; “Today being Thursday 31/10/2024 around 0200hrs, a Storey building located around Ojugbede Jegede Area, Ogbere collapsed leading to the immediate loss of (10) Ten Lives while (8) Eight others are currently battling with various degrees of life threatening injuries. “Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the Area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction. “Investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstance that could have led to the incident. “Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
