Bayern’s Musiala Collapses Again on the Pitch, Three Days After First Incident

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala was forced to leave the pitch after collapsing during a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, just three days after experiencing a similar incident in Munich. The 23-year-old fell to the turf just minutes after coming on late into the match at second-division Heidenheim. Musiala appeared dazed as he received medical treatment and was helped off the pitch. After the match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said Musiala would make a comment on the situation soon. “Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it, and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He’s in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.” On Saturday, the Germany international fell to the pitch against RB Leipzig and required medical attention in hot conditions in the Bavarian capital, with temperatures well over 30°C. Musiala missed the first six months of last season due to a broken ankle sustained at the Club World Cup, but he returned in the second half of the campaign and played for Germany at the 2026 World Cup. Doctor Explains Palliative Care After Ogogo’s Daughters Alleged Hospitals Denied Treatment

Doctor Olusina Ajidahun has addressed claims by the daughters of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, that hospitals have stopped treating their father, who is reportedly battling stage-four cancer. The doctor, identified on X as The Bearded Dr Sina, said the daughters’ description of their father’s treatment could be misunderstood, particularly their claim that hospitals had refused to treat him. Reacting to the development on Monday, he explained that patients with stage-four cancer may be moved to palliative care after chemotherapy and other available therapies have been explored. He wrote, “They don’t want to treat my father again. This is a dangerous statement and can set the tide against the medical team treating her Dad. “When patients have stage 4 cancer and chemo and/or other therapies have been explored. There is a form of care called PALLIATIVE CARE.. which is end-of-life care and care for terminal diseases because at the point of the disease you cannot treat it, but you can manage associated symptoms and give the person a good quality of life before death.” According to him, describing the situation as hospitals refusing to treat the actor could create a negative perception of healthcare workers and potentially trigger hostility against medical professionals. “Saying they don’t want to treat my father makes it look like they are intentionally rejecting him, and in the context of recent happenings in the health sector, it can trigger an insurrection and put a bad label on health care workers,” he said. He also expressed sympathy for Ogogo’s family and said he hoped they would work closely with the medical team treating the actor. “I do hope Ogogo’s daughter and family see this. Wishing the family all the best throughout the trying times,” he added. The doctor clarified that he was not involved in Ogogo’s medical care and was commenting independently on the daughters’ videos. Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, separately appealed for help on Instagram over their father’s health condition. In a video posted on her Instagram page on Monday, Lima said the actor’s condition had deteriorated and claimed that hospitals had refused to treat him. “Hello everybody, good evening. I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer and it’s really, really bad. “And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance. Nobody wants to do anything,” she said. Lima said the family only discovered the extent of the actor’s condition about three weeks earlier, adding that his outward appearance had not reflected the severity of his illness. “You see him, you can’t even know that. Something is wrong that bad. It’s just starting to show. We didn’t even know until like three weeks ago,” she said. She reiterated that the family was seeking medical assistance and not financial donations, appealing to anyone with connections to healthcare providers who could take on her father’s case. “Please, I’m begging you. If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she said. Lima also acknowledged the support the family had received from a relative during the crisis. “My big uncle has helped a lot. He has been of great help. Like, nobody even knew that he would show up for us this way,” she said. The actress’ daughter ended her video with an emotional appeal, saying she could not bear to watch her father die. “But if he’s willing to do anything, please, if you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, would you really appreciate it? Please, I can’t watch my daddy die. I can’t. I can’t. Please. Please, I’m begging you. Please. Please,” she said. In a separate Instagram video, Kira also appealed for help, disclosing that her father’s cancer was at stage four. “Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said. Kira appealed to anyone who could provide cancer treatment for the actor, including chemotherapy, to contact the family. She stressed that the family was not seeking money but medical intervention that could give their father another chance. “What I’m here for, what I’m here for is that if you can treat my daddy, if you can start chemo for him, whether it’s medical or herbs, please, I’m begging you, guys, I’m begging you, any help, anything, anybody that you know that can treat cancer, please, please, I’m begging you,” she said. She urged anyone who knew a medical professional or facility capable of treating cancer to contact her, her sister or the actor directly. “Please, please, if you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” Kira said. She became emotional while speaking about her father’s condition, saying she had never seen him in such pain. “God, give me strength. I’m suffering so bad. There’s no money, but if you know anybody that can treat my daddy, Andrew, please,” she said. Kira added that her father had expressed his fear of dying. “He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said. Hassan, 66, is a veteran of the Nigerian film industry whose career spans more than four decades. He has featured in more than 300 films and is one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema.

Osun Poll: I Had No Agreement With ADC,Says Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has rejected claims attributed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the party played a role in securing his victory in last Saturday’s governorship re-election. Adeleke, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, declared that he had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during and after the governorship election. The governor, however, credited God and the Osun people for his re-election win, saying the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed and supported his battle for last Saturday’s election. He commended political partners who sacrificed to make his re-election a reality The statement read further, “Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied reports from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it helped the Osun governor to win re-election, declaring that he had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during and after the governorship election. “Governor Adeleke, who again credited God and Osun people for his re-election win, said ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed and supported his battle for last Saturday’s election, commending political partners who sacrificed to make the aspirations of Osun people a reality.” Quoting the governor, the statement further read, “I commend political partners who went all out to make Saturday a victory day for all Osun people. But we must clarify for the sake of history that ADC was never part of the alliance. “Now that the election is over, I am a governor of all Osun people irrespective of political groups, religion or race.” Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Dr Najeem Salaam, has commended members of the party for the courage they displayed during the journey that climaxed with the governorship poll. Salaam, in a statement he personally signed and obtained by The PUNCH on Tuesday, also lauded the support of ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola and the Osun people, saying that despite the outcome of the poll, his love for the state and commitment to its development will continue. The statement read, “I sincerely appreciate every one of you for your courage, steadfastness and unwavering belief throughout this journey. Against all odds, we walked, we talked, and we stood together. We did so not merely for political power, but because we genuinely believe in the development, progress and future of Osun State. “To the good people of Osun State, I deeply appreciate you for coming out to exercise your democratic right. I thank you for listening to our message, engaging with us and giving us the opportunity to present our vision for a better Osun. Your voices and choices must always be respected, because democracy ultimately belongs to the people. “I also express my profound gratitude to our leader, @raufaregbesola, a great political strategist, mobiliser and courageous leader whose experience, wisdom and commitment added immense strength to our journey. His presence reminded us that politics can be about ideas, service and the people.” The PUNCH reports that Adeleke was returned elected by the State Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, Prof Joshua Ogunwole. Adeleke won the governorship poll with a total of 511,067, to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress who polled 444, 815 votes.

Osun Poll: ‘Adeleke Is Different From Fubara,’ Says Dele Momodu

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant in the 2023 general elections, Dele Momodu, has warned against drawing comparisons between Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Rivers State counterpart, Siminalayi Fubara. Momodu, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, stated this via his X handle on Tuesday while reacting to an online publication titled ‘Wike: I’d have been in Osun if Tinubu wanted APC victory at all cost.’ “Osun people would have demystified you mercilessly. Adeleke is not Fubara!! My kobo advice, stop equating yourself to God,” Momodu wrote. According to the publication which Momodu reacted to, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the ruling All Progressives Congress wouldn’t have lost the Osun State governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had “wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs.” “I would have been there, and we would have won it, and there’s nothing the governor can do,” Wike stressed. The PUNCH Online reports that Adeleke, contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, won a re-election into office for a second term, having polled 511,067 votes against the APC’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who had 444,815 votes. In his first tenure in office, Adeleke, then a PDP governorship candidate, defeated former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, in the 2022 governorship election. The publication, as earlier referenced, noted that Wike made the statement on Tuesday while responding to questions on the outcome of the Osun governorship election, as he addressed journalists during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja. “Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has been a prominent member of the G5 group of PDP governors who opposed the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election. Since Tinubu appointed him FCT minister, Wike has maintained his membership of the PDP while publicly supporting the President and some policies of his administration. “His latest comment underscores his claim that the APC could have secured victory in Osun had the President chosen to deploy greater political effort towards the election. “Wike has also remained politically active despite serving in an APC-led federal administration, maintaining that his support for Tinubu does not amount to abandoning the PDP,” the publication read. On August 11, 2026, Momodu revealed his support for Adeleke of the Accord Party in Osun State for a second term, despite being a member of a rival opposition party. Momodu insisted that opposition parties must set aside individual interests and align behind Adeleke ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state. The former presidential aspirant said he remained a proud member of the ADC, saying that he joined the party on the basis that prominent opposition figures decided to form a broad coalition against what he described as the “APC cankerworm.” “I joined ADC on the basis that prominent members of opposition parties in Nigeria decided to form a broad coalition of forces against the APC cankerworm that has almost destroyed our economy, social cohesion, religious tolerance and democratic institutions and separation of powers. It would be foolhardy not to see that with the manner APC has turned Osun State into a theatre of war, the only sensible strategy is for all opposition parties to align immediately and back the Accord Party candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke. “I make this declaration without equivocation, or any fear of contradiction,” the statement partly read.

Davido: I Have No 2027 Candidate Yet, I Won’t Support APC

Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he has not chosen a preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election, while ruling out support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Tuesday, the music icon addressed whether he would maintain his active political involvement during the upcoming 2027 presidential contest. Responding to questions about political endorsements and addressing his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu, Davido clarified that his personal political convictions remain independent. “My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody,” he stated. Recalling his past political engagements, the artiste noted that while he had previously supported opposition figures and cross-party alignments, his current stance remains uncommitted. “In the past, yes, I’ve supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger; my late uncle Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon) was part of the APC, I campaigned then,” he said. He, however, emphasised that his political position ahead of 2027 remains completely open, except for the ruling party. “Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” Davido added. Davido’s comments come amid heightened public attention following his prominent role during the Osun State election cycle, where he mobilised voters and advocated for transparent election results. Davido’s uncle, the re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has noted that his decision to support Tinubu for a second term in 2027 is based on his belief that the President, as a Yoruba man from the South-West, deserves support to consolidate his reforms and infrastructure projects in the region.

Tupac Murder Suspect Was Seeking Revenge, Jury Told

Jurors heard Monday that rapper Tupac Shakur was killed in a gang-related revenge attack allegedly ordered by a mobster who later bragged about the crime, as one of the US’s most closely watched trials began three decades after his death. Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a one-time leader of the South Side Compton Crips, one of a patchwork of gangs that ran parts of Los Angeles in the 1990s, ordered the killing after his nephew had been beaten by a rival mob, prosecutor Binu Pilal told a Las Vegas court. “On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur publicly, on camera, participated in a humiliating beating of Duane Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson,” he said. “Then, two and a half hours later… Tupac is gunned down in a drive-by shooting from a white Cadillac in an act of revenge.” Pilal said Davis did not pull the trigger, but had handed the gun to someone sitting in the back seat of his car and ordered that person to shoot the rapper. In repeated interviews — with law enforcement, with media and ultimately in an autobiography — Davis confessed to his part in the murder, Pilal said. “Over the years, in private interviews, in public statements, and even in private calls, Duane Davis has repeatedly told us over and over again about the anger he felt, and his own role in the revenge drive-by shooting of Tupac Shakur. “And now, nearly 30 years later, we’re going to ask you to finally hold Duane Davis accountable,” he told the jury. Davis, 63, denies all charges in the trial, which could last over a month. If convicted, he faces possible life in prison without parole. East Coast vs West Coast The killing of Shakur, also known as 2Pac, is one of America’s most celebrated cold cases, prompting endless debate among music fans over who did it and why. The rapper, who was just 25 when he died, was a key figure in a hip-hop rivalry pitting the US East Coast against the West Coast. Known for hits like “California Love” and “All Eyez on Me,” Shakur — the son of a Black Panther — was raised in Harlem and Baltimore, but quickly became the epitome of a California bad boy when he signed with Los Angeles-based Death Row Records. The trial will revisit the battle between Death Row, founded by Marion “Suge” Knight, and Bad Boy Records, the East Coast label created by Sean “Diddy” Combs, which signed Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace — who was murdered in March 1997. Prosecutors say Death Row Records was protected by Mob Piru, a Los Angeles gang that was part of the wider Bloods alliance. Knight was affiliated with the group. Bad Boy Records had hired the rival South Side Compton Crips, led by Davis, as bodyguards. Knight and Shakur were in Las Vegas to watch boxer Mike Tyson fight, when they beat up Davis’s nephew, Crips member Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, in retribution over an alleged assault of a Death Row employee. Davis was out for revenge, the prosecution says. Later that night, a white Cadillac carrying Davis, Anderson and others pulled up beside Shakur’s car in Las Vegas. Shots were fired from the Cadillac, and Shakur was fatally wounded. The investigation sputtered for decades because of a lack of evidence, but the case was revived when Davis’s memoirs were published in 2019. In the book, he recounted that he was in the front seat of the Cadillac and that he handed a pistol to those in the back seat. But he does not say who opened fire on Shakur. Everyone else who was in the Cadillac that night is now dead. Davis has since backtracked, insisting the claims were bluster and were created by a ghostwriter to sell books. He has pleaded not guilty. AFP

Nigerian National Arrested in Vietnam with Meth and Heroin

A Nigerian national has been arrested in Vietnam after authorities reportedly discovered 2kg of suspected crystal methamphetamine and two suspected bricks of heroin hidden in a shipment from Laos. VietnamPlus reported on Monday that the drugs were discovered at the Lao Bao International Border Gate in Quang Tri Province after customs officers detected suspicious images in a consigned package during a scan. The report said the case was uncovered at about 8:30 pm on August 5 when customs officers were inspecting road vehicles entering Vietnam from Laos through the border gate. “Customs officers detected suspicious images in a consigned package using scanning equipment,” the report stated. A subsequent physical inspection reportedly revealed that the drugs had been concealed inside electric water heaters and electronic components “used as disguises.” The discovery raised suspicions of transnational drug trafficking, prompting the Customs Sub-Department of Region IX to assign its customs control team to lead the investigation. The team also coordinated with the Lao Bao International Border Gate’s customs branch, the drug-related crimes investigation police division under the Quang Tri Police, the anti-smuggling investigation sub-department and the provincial Border Guard. According to the report, the agencies worked together “to identify and locate the recipient” of the consignment. “After several days of tracing the consignment across multiple locations,” law enforcement officers arrested Izuchukwu Calistus Odionye, a Nigerian national born in 1983, on August 9 in Ho Chi Minh City while he was receiving the package. The suspect reportedly admitted that the package contained drugs. Odionye told investigators that he “had been hired to receive it in Ho Chi Minh City and transport it to Hanoi,” according to the report. The Vietnamese authorities have since expanded the investigation to identify other people allegedly involved in the case. “The investigation has been expanded to identify other people involved,” the report added.

Xenophobia: 83 More Nigerians Set to Return from South Africa on Wednesday

The Federal Government has announced the arrival of another 83 Nigerian nationals evacuated from South Africa amid growing Afrophobic attacks and rising anti-foreigner sentiments in the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the returnees were expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. According to the ministry, the returnees will depart Oliver Tambo Airport, Johannesburg, at 3:35pm local time aboard South African Airways and are expected to arrive in Lagos at approximately 8:45pm the same day. The ministry said the latest evacuation was facilitated through the intervention and sponsorship of air tickets by public-spirited private individuals. “The Ministry wishes to note that this latest cohort of returnees is facilitated through the kind intervention and sponsorship of tickets by public-spirited private individuals, whose generosity the Federal Government acknowledges with profound gratitude,” the statement said. The development followed the conclusion of the government’s voluntary repatriation programme, under which nearly 1,490 Nigerians were repatriated from South Africa amid concerns over attacks and discrimination against foreigners. The ministry said the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, remained committed to protecting the welfare and dignity of Nigerians at home and abroad. It said the government’s Citizen Diplomacy agenda viewed Nigerians in the diaspora “not as a burden, but as critical assets for national development,” adding that it was committed to ensuring their protection and well-being. The ministry also commended the private individuals and philanthropists who supported the latest evacuation, describing their intervention as an example of the “whole-of-society approach” being promoted by the government. “The Ministry commends their patriotism and selflessness, which have significantly alleviated the plight of our compatriots in South Africa,” the statement said. The FG called on the organised private sector, corporate organisations, state governments and other well-meaning Nigerians at home and abroad to emulate the initiative and support government efforts to respond to consular emergencies. The ministry further said the government would continue to strengthen diplomatic engagement with South Africa to address the root causes of Afrophobia and prevent attacks and discrimination against Nigerians. “The government remains committed to deepening strategic partnerships with host nations, including South Africa, to address the root causes of Afrophobia and ensure that such acts of violence and discrimination against Nigerians are prevented and are strongly condemned when they occur, including holding perpetrators of such violence to account,” it stated. The ministry expressed appreciation to the private sponsors for their support and urged broader collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to protect its citizens abroad.

UK Mission Commends Osun Voters, Calls for Lessons from Election

The British High Commission has praised Osun State residents for their peaceful conduct during the August 15 governorship election and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on securing a second term. In a statement issued on Monday, the High Commission said it deployed accredited observers to monitor the election after engaging with various stakeholders ahead of the poll. It said its observations, which were consistent with findings by credible independent observer groups with wider deployments across the state, showed several encouraging signs of a positive democratic process. The commission said, “This includes the opening of polls as scheduled in many locations, the commitment of security personnel to maintaining order, and the effective implementation of electoral procedures by INEC officials.” It particularly commended voters for their “patience, resilience and participation” throughout the election. However, the British High Commission noted reports of isolated incidents that generated tension before and during the election, as well as the continued challenge of voter interference, including vote-buying across party lines. It also raised concerns over access to polling facilities for persons with disabilities and elderly voters, as well as overcrowding linked to the speed and limited provision of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices for accreditation. The commission urged relevant institutions to review the identified challenges and draw lessons from the election to improve future electoral processes. “We encourage the relevant institutions to review these issues carefully and to draw lessons – including from the recommendations of credible organisations like the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room – that strengthen public confidence, transparency and accountability,” it said. Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the commission noted that off-cycle elections benefited from additional personnel and resources that could be more difficult to replicate during nationwide polls. It nevertheless expressed hope that the Osun election would contribute to further improvements in Nigeria’s electoral system. “We nevertheless hope that the experience of the Osun election will help inform further improvements that strengthen the integrity, inclusiveness and credibility of future electoral processes,” the commission said. The United Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s electoral institutions, civil society and other partners in promoting peaceful, transparent, inclusive and credible elections to strengthen the democratic institutions that underpin them.

LASU 2026 Best Graduating Student Receives N10m Cash Prize

Lagos State University’s overall best graduating student, Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, has been awarded a N10 million cash prize under the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme. Oluolamide, a graduate of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, received the award in recognition of his outstanding academic performance during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation held on Monday at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium, Epe Campus. He graduated with a 4.97 CGPA out of 5.00, earning First-Class Honours and emerging as the overall best graduating student of the 2025/2026 academic session. According to Vanguard, the N10m prize was presented to Oluolamide by the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme, which recognises outstanding academic performance and seeks to encourage excellence and innovation among students. PUNCH Online had earlier reported that Oluolamide emerged as LASU’s best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session with a CGPA of 4.97. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, announced the results during a press conference, disclosing that more than 20,000 students would graduate across the two academic sessions, including 494 first-class graduates. Reacting to his achievement, Oluolamide dedicated his success to God. Before his graduation, the Aerospace Engineering graduate was involved in several extracurricular activities, including research and academic publications. Celebrating his achievement on X, he wrote, “4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University.
