Gospel Singer and Nollywood Soundtrack Icon Onos Brisibi Dies at 55

Gospel singer and Nollywood soundtrack voice, Onos Brisibi, has died at the age of 55. Brisibi, whose unmistakable vocals were featured in Nollywood classics such as Domitilla and Blood Money, died on March 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness. Her death was announced on Thursday in a tribute shared on Instagram by veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD). In the emotional post, RMD described her as a devout Christian and a gifted vocalist whose music touched countless lives. He wrote, “It’s hard to put into words the loss we feel. “My dear sister and cousin, Onos Nancy Brisibi, went to be with the Lord on March 23rd, 2026, after a long and difficult illness. She was born on November 20th, 1970, to Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi (of blessed memory) and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi of Aladja, Udu, Delta State. “Onos was more than family—she was love in human form. A devoted Christian, a beautiful soul, and a gifted songstress whose voice carried so much light and joy. She didn’t just sing; she ministered, lifting hearts and drawing people closer to God. She loved deeply, laughed freely, and gave so much of herself to everyone around her. “I called her Onos pokor pokor, and in return she would call me Uncle Richard—with that her playful, almost British accent. Where Warri girl wey never go England see that kind accent from? That was just who she was—full of life, humour, and charm. “The memories keep flooding in—even till her last days, when with Mama we sat reminiscing and teasing her about how, as kids, she would leave Mama Titi’s house just to come and eat at my mum’s place, where her ‘special plate’ was always waiting. Through it all, her laughter never left her—and it still echoes in our hearts now. “She leaves behind her daughter, Sarah, her mother, siblings, and so many of us who will carry her in our hearts always. “The tears are many, but the memories are even more. And we are comforted, like all who knew her and her dedication to spreading the gospel through music, that she is finally resting with the Lord. “I will miss you deeply, my sweet coz. I love you—always will. Rest in perfect peace, Onos. You were truly loved.” Brisibi, born on November 20, 1970, to Apostle Ambrose Oproze Brisibi (late) and Deaconess Mary Koko Brisibi of Aladja, Udu, Delta State, was widely regarded for her contributions to gospel music and her memorable presence in Nollywood soundtracks. She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Brisibi, her mother, siblings, extended family, friends, and her church community at LoveWorld Ministries.

I was Mocked Over my Daughter’s Death for Endorsing Tinubu–Actress Remi Surutu

Nollywood actress Remilekun Oshodi, popularly known as Remi Surutu, has opened up about the shocking online abuse she faced while campaigning for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election. Speaking at the official launch of EKO57, a Lagos-based support group for Tinubu’s campaign on Sunday, Oshodi, in a viral video recounted how trolls on social media went as far as blaming her for the death of her daughter because of her political activities. “I am not scared. I’ve been campaigning for so many years. People bashed me on the internet during campaign time. They said a lot. They even insulted me and said, a day to election, that it was Asiwaju that I was following who killed my child. But I care less. “I still went on the second day to go and vote. Your vote is your right. Don’t let anybody deceive you. Don’t let anybody scare you. When I met B Tinubu, our Baba, he was doing well. If you think he has not done well, suggest a man in your family. Let that person come and govern for just one day. “Then you will know what is going on. But I am telling myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him, and I am going to vote for him. And he has my vote,” Oshodi said in a now-viral video footage from the event. The veteran actress also used the platform to address the broader challenges of politics and personal conviction, saying, “There are so many anti-party. When they want to take money, they will come and say I am with you. They will leave. You have to know what you are doing. You have to know what you want for yourself. If this man had not been covering a lot of things, Nigeria would have gone into a big mess by now. But we don’t know. We just sit at the back of our houses. This man does not sleep. The wife is always travelling all over. The son, too, moving around. How many politicians have you seen with their sons moving around?” Oshodi lost her first daughter, Ayomikun, to complications from sickle cell disease in July 2017. Following the death of her daughter, Oshodi had shared her thoughts and prayers for her children on Instagram, expressing gratitude to God for the strength to bear the loss. She also spoke of the joy of having a granddaughter who bears a striking resemblance to her late daughter. Her resilience and continued dedication to Nollywood have made her an enduring figure in the Nigerian film industry. The EKO57 campaign launch in Lagos attracted several other Nollywood practitioners, including Yomi Fash Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, and Lege Miami. Oshodi, a seasoned actress with decades of experience in the industry, emphasised that her political advocacy would not be deterred by online criticism or threats. “I am telling myself, I am not backing out. I am going to campaign for him, and I am going to vote for him. And he has my vote. And if you see anybody out there trying to scare anybody, if you plan to kill me, you are going to kill yourself. Because when you are going on your straight line with your good hearts, nothing happens to you,” she said.

Sophia Momodu’s Lawyer Demands N1bn from Davido Over Harassment Allegation

A Lagos-based law firm, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, has issued a pre-action notice to music star Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, over alleged harassment, threats to life, cyberbullying and defamation of one of its partners, Ebelechukwu Enedah. In a letter dated February 24, 2026, which was seen by our correspondent today, and addressed to Adeleke, the firm stated that it was acting on the instruction of Mrs Enedah and formally notified him of her intention to commence legal action. The letter was signed by Decency Nkume, Associate, and Nnamdi Oragwu, Partner, on behalf of Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors. “We are Counsel to Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah (hereinafter referred to as ‘Our Client’), on whose unequivocal instruction, we notify you of her intention to commence legal action against you,” the letter read. The firm alleged that the dispute began during proceedings in Suit No: LD/1587PMC/2024, David Adeleke v. Sophia Momodu, at the Lagos State High Court on February 12, 2026. According to the letter, Adeleke allegedly conducted himself in a manner unbecoming of a litigant by becoming aggressive and verbally abusive towards Mrs Enedah, who appeared as counsel for the respondent, Sophia Momodu. “Your conduct deteriorated to such a degree that physical restraint became necessary to prevent further disruption to the proceedings,” the firm stated. It further claimed that the court directed him to apologise in open court, but that he failed to comply. “The Honourable Court directed you to apologise to Our Client in open court for your conduct, which directive you disobeyed,” the letter added. The firm also alleged that the incident spilt onto social media, accusing Adeleke and accounts allegedly affiliated with him of publishing posts that exposed Mrs Enedah to public harassment and threats. Among the statements attributed to Adeleke in the letter were: “I disgraced you in the courtroom… I was teaching you your work, you couldn’t even take it… You are a wicked human being, UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER! I BEAT YOU IN COURT!” Describing the publications as deliberate and malicious, the firm stated, “To publicly brand a lawyer of her standing as ‘THE WORST LAWYER EVER’ is not the expression of grievance. It is a deliberate and malicious act of reputational destruction.” It added that the consequences of the posts were severe. “The consequences were swift and severe. Our Client was immediately subjected to a torrent of abusive text messages, threatening telephone calls, and explicit threats to her safety and the safety of her family,” the letter read. The firm stressed that legal practitioners are entitled to carry out their professional duties without intimidation, harassment or public ridicule, particularly in matters involving the custody and welfare of a minor. In addition to demanding an immediate cessation of further commentary on the pending suit, the firm called for a public apology. “You are hereby required to issue a clear and unequivocal public statement withdrawing the defamatory statements and offering an unreserved apology to Our Client,” it stated. The law firm further said its client was demanding compensation in the sum of one billion naira (₦1,000,000,000) as damages for the alleged harassment, defamation and emotional distress. It warned that failure to comply within seven days of receipt of the letter would result in legal action. “Should you fail, refuse, or neglect to comply with the above demands within seven (7) days of receipt of this letter, Our Client shall, without further recourse to you, commence an action at the High Court of Lagos to seek the reliefs outlined herein,” the letter stated. PUNCH Online reports that Davido had in recent years been involved in a protracted custody and child support dispute with Sophia Momodu, the mother of his daughter. The matter has generated significant public attention, with both parties previously exchanging claims in court and in the media. The latest controversy appears to have stemmed from a court session linked to the ongoing custody proceedings. Following the February 12 hearing, social media posts attributed to Davido criticised the opposing counsel, triggering widespread online reactions and sparking debate over professional conduct, freedom of expression and the limits of public commentary on sub judice matters. As of the time of filing this report, Adeleke had yet to publicly respond to the allegations or the demands contained in the pre-action notice.
