Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Drugs into Ogun Prison for Death-Row Son

  The Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, has arrested Mrs Iyabo Sowunmi for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is reportedly on death row at the facility. The spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, Olayinka Odukoya, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. Odukoya said Sowunmi was arrested at about 1:33 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, during a routine screening at the facility’s main entrance. He said the substance, suspected to be “Colos”, a psychoactive synthetic drug, was concealed in a sachet of a popular beverage powder and was allegedly intended for the inmate. He explained, “At approximately 1:33 PM on Friday, August 28, 2026, routine screening procedures at the facility’s main entry point led to the detection of suspicious substances, believed to be the psychoactive synthetic drug commonly known as ‘Colos,’ concealed within a sachet of a popular beverage powder. “The suspect was attempting to deliver the package to an inmate, Dare Sowunmi, who is currently on death row. Following the interception, officers immediately detained Mrs Sowunmi. In accordance with inter-agency operational protocols, she has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.” Reacting to the incident, the Controller of Corrections, Ogun State Command, Abioye Adesina, commended the security personnel for their vigilance and adherence to security protocols. Adesina said, “Our custodial facilities exist to ensure public safety, reformation, and rehabilitation. We maintain an absolute zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking or any illegal acts designed to compromise security. “Attempts to introduce contraband into our facilities will be met with swift legal action.” The command urged members of the public to respect the integrity of custodial institutions, and,warning that anyone seeking to undermine security would face the full weight of the law.

Ethiopian Woman Welcomes Quintuplets,After 12 Years of Waiting

  A woman in Ethiopia’s Harari Regional State has given birth to rare quintuplets after spending 12 years trying to have a child. Bedriya Adem, 35, delivered four boys and a girl at Hiwot Fana Specialised Hospital through a Caesarean section on Tuesday evening. Doctors at the hospital said both the mother and the babies are in good health. The newborns weighed between 1.3kg and 1.4kg at birth. “The babies are in full health and remain under medical care together with their mother,” the hospital’s medical director, Dr Mohammed Nur Abdulahi, told the BBC on Friday. He added that the pregnancy occurred naturally without the use of in vitro fertilisation (IVF), making the birth even more unusual. “The chance of conceiving quintuplets naturally is extremely rare,” he said. Bedriya described the birth of her five children as an answered prayer after years of emotional pain and disappointment. “I cannot express my happiness in words,” she said. “I prayed for just one child, and Allah gave me five.” The first-time mother said she endured years of social pressure and emotional suffering because she had not been able to conceive. “I spent 12 years in pain, hiding myself, and praying constantly for children — at last, Allah heard me,” she said. Bedriya revealed that doctors initially told her she was carrying four babies, but a fifth child was discovered during delivery. “When I gave birth, there was one more,” she said. She also spoke about the emotional support she received from her husband during the difficult years. “He used to tell me that having his other child was enough and that I should not worry, but deep inside I was suffering psychologically and emotionally,” she said. The quintuplets, named Naif, Ammar, Munzir, Nazira, and Ansar, are now being monitored at the hospital as the family prepares for life with five newborns. Although Bedriya said she is worried about providing for the children as a subsistence farmer, she remains hopeful. “I believe Allah will provide, through the support of my community and the government,” she said.

Woman Arrested For Stealing 7-Day-Old BaBy During Naming Ceremony In Nasarawa

    The Nassarawa State police command has arrested a woman for stealing a 7-day-old baby girl during the child’s naming ceremony in Keffi Local Government Area of the state. The spokesperson of the command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, September 29, 2024, said the suspect claims to be pregnant. “On 28/9/2024 at about 1830hrs, Police operatives attached to Keffi Division arrested one Khadija Aliyu ‘F’ for stealing a seven days old baby girl during a naming ceremony in Keffi,” the PPRO stated. “The suspect, who has been claiming to be pregnant, attended a naming ceremony at Behind INEC office, keffi. “While the event was ongoing, she sneaked into the house and stole the baby that was laid to sleep, carried the child behind her back, covered her with a veil and escaped before she was later arrested.”

Woman Dies While Sharing Testimony at Church Service in Lagos

    Ifeoma, a 55-year-old woman, tragically died shortly while sharing her testimony at the Ministry Church in Ejigbo, Lagos State, on Sunday, September 8. The incident occurred around 8:48 am when Ifeoma collapsed at the church altar while singing songs of gratitude. Lagos Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Ifeoma was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The police were notified by the church’s zonal accountant. Hundeyin also noted that Ifeoma’s family had since transported her body to Anambra State, her hometown, for her funeral. He stated, “The Zonal accountant of the church in Ejigbo came to the station and reported that during testimony hour in the church, while the service was on, Ifeoma came out singing songs to give her testimony when she suddenly slumped. “She was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital but was referred to the General Hospital in Isolo, where she was confirmed dead. “Based on the report, detectives were detailed to visit the hospital with the complainant. On getting there, they were told that the husband and family of the deceased had taken the corpse to Anambra State, where she came from for burial.”
