PDP Govs Plan Summit As Leaders Exchange Blows At BoT Meeting

Damagum, speaking to members of the Board of Trustees in Abuja on Wednesday, emphasised that he would do everything in his power to ensure the PDP National Executive Committee meeting takes place in February, as requested by the party’s Governors Forum and other party organs. A senior member of the National Working Committee, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorised to speak on the issue, disclosed that BoT members protested the assault on former National Youth Leader, Sunday Ude-Okoye, by a supporter of the embattled National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu during the BoT meeting. The source revealed that the primary agenda for the meeting convened by the Forum led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, includes the urgent need for a NEC meeting, ongoing preparations for the zonal congresses, the National Secretary crisis, a report from Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum on the party’s status, and a review of the state of the nation. The PDP had been engulfed in crisis since the 2023 elections with many party members accusing Damagum, a close ally of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, of being responsible for the unrest within the party. At present, the National Working Committee, BoT, zonal, and state chapters are all embroiled in crisis, with members aligning themselves with different leaders. Also, Wike, the Bauchi governor and others have continued to exchange harsh words, further escalating the schism in the party. Commenting on the crisis, Damagum, who called the situation unfortunate, accused some members of the BoT of being complicit in the turmoil. He stated “I want to say this with the highest sense of responsibility, part of this crisis that you see today within the NWC, is propelled by our leaders that are supposed to unite us. “It is very unfortunate, I would say it the way it is, where people are called, we all know the working of NWC, some of you here have been NWC members. I’ll be sitting down as the chairman only to see my NWC members called by certain leaders to visit certain places, without my knowledge. “And I want to use this opportunity to caution us, caution our leaders. You may have ambition, but you don’t ride on a dead horse to reach your destination. If you create crisis simply to further your ambition, you may get what you want, but your dream will not be realized because by that time, you have injured the horse you are going to ride to that destination. “And as the conscience of this party, some of us are also complicit. We should look inwards, search our conscience. This party is dear to all of us, it is the only thing we have. The hope of Nigerians today is on this party, so we should sheath our swords, work towards uniting ourselves so that we’ll have a credible vehicle that can challenge what is bedeviling us.” The party leader further urged leaders not to take any action that could disrupt the ongoing processes for the zonal congresses. He continued, “At the last meeting we had with the governor, we all agreed we’ll have NEC (meeting). I want to assure you that we will do everything possible to have this NEC in this February. “You are all aware we’ve started the process of zonal congresses. Even at that, I enjoin our leaders to also be mindful of doing anything that can mar these congresses. It is very important to sound this note because whatever we do, it is the structure you are building to hold what you have in your hand.” In his remarks, the BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara expressed frustration over the crisis. He cautioned party leaders not to let personal interests and ambitions take precedence over the party’s well-being. He stated, “This meeting comes at a time when the unity, focus and direction and ideals of our great party are being tested in ways that call for reflection and decisive action. “Primarily, let me express my profound disappointment over the crises currently rocking the leadership of the National Working Committee. As elder statesmen and women; leaders who hold the trust of the generality of our party members and the public, it is disheartening that these issues have not been resolved. “The failure to resolve these internal conflicts undermines the strength and credibility of our party. It is therefore imperative that the NWC rises above personal interests and places the survival and progress of our great party above all other considerations. In the light of these challenges, I must emphasize the urgent need for a National Executive Committee meeting. “I again urge the NWC to honour its words and convene the NEC meeting as scheduled in February 2025. It is pertinent to stress that party members across the country are in earnest expectation that the NEC meeting will hold this February. “The NEC remains the highest decision-making body of our party, and it is crucial that we convene without further delay to address these pressing concerns. The NEC meeting will serve as a platform to reaffirm our shared commitment to the unity, discipline, and ideals that bind us together as members of the PDP.” Earlier during the 79th BoT meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, the former national youth leader who has being parading himself as the National Secretary, was assaulted by Anyanwu’s supporters. The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu had on December 20, 2024, upheld Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary, and the decision was formally communicated to the party leadership on December 24. However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain in office until the Supreme Court resolves the appeal. Wabara had declared the meeting open at 12:05 p.m. with Anyanwu in attendance while while Ude-Okoye arrived five minutes later. At precisely 12:20 p.m., a commotion broke out in the hall with Anyanwu forced out of the meeting room. After being pushed out, Ude-Okoye ordered some individuals dressed in … Read more

APC Expels Aregbesola Over Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress has expelled a former Minister of Interior and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, over alleged anti-party activities. Aregbesola, who led Osun State for two terms, had spearheaded a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives which was later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus. A letter from the APC leadership seen by newsmen on Wednesday officially confirmed Aregbesola’s expulsion. The letter, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” accused him of breaching Article 21 of the party’s constitution, which outlines disciplinary measures for members. The letter read in part, “At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the Disciplinary Committee. Having carefully reviewed the findings and recommendations, the SEC resolved to approve your immediate expulsion from the APC. “The decision was predicated on clear evidence of your actions, which undermined the unity and integrity of the party. As a result, you are no longer a member of the APC and must refrain from holding yourself out as one or acting on behalf of the party in any capacity.” The former minister’s expulsion followed a Sunday meeting of the Omoluabi Caucus, presided over by Aregbesola, where the group announced its decision to exit the APC, citing the party’s waning influence in Osun. Tinubu Affirms Nigeria’s Commitment To Improved Electricity

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity to its citizens by 2030. Tinubu made the declaration as he concluded his participation in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he joined other African leaders to address the continent’s energy access challenges. This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday. The two-day summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Union, African Development Bank, and the World Bank Group, culminated in the adoption of the Dar es Salaam Declaration. The declaration sets a collective target for African nations to provide electricity to 300 million people by 2030. In his speech, delivered by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s commitment to this goal, stressing that energy access would remain a top priority for his administration. He called for a united, collaborative effort among African nations, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to ensure that all Africans have access to electricity in the next decade. “Let us work together to create a brighter future for our citizens, where every African has access to reliable and affordable energy, where our industries thrive, and our economies grow,” Tinubu said. The President seized the opportunity to highlight the strides Nigeria has made in improving its energy access, with the support of international partners. He outlined several ongoing projects, including the $1.1 billion investment by AfDB that will provide electricity to 5 million Nigerians by 2026. He also noted the $200 million Nigeria Electrification Project, aimed at electrifying 500,000 people by the end of 2025, and the planned investments in the Nigeria Desert to Power programme and the Nigeria-Grid Battery Energy Storage System. “These initiatives represent our commitment to improving electricity access for our citizens, especially those in underserved areas. We are making tangible progress towards achieving our goal of providing electricity for all by 2030,” Tinubu said. The President also emphasized Nigeria’s push towards renewable energy, highlighting the government’s efforts to establish an electric vehicle charging infrastructure powered by renewable energy. This move, he said, is part of Nigeria’s broader commitment to sustainable energy solutions and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. “Nigeria’s energy sector is growing, and we are incentivizing private sector investments to expand renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, and bring electricity to those who need it the most,” he said. Tinubu also underscored the importance of regional cooperation in achieving the energy access goal. He pointed to the collaboration between the Nigerian government and key international development partners like AfDB, the World Bank, and the IFC, which have committed billions in funding for energy projects in Nigeria. Celebrities Slam 2Face Over Split From Wife, Annie

Celebrities and social media users have slammed the action of Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, as he reconfirmed separation from his wife, Annie. PUNCH Metro on Monday reported that in a video posted on his Instagram story, 2Baba confirmed his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia, after earlier stating in a now-deleted post that his account was hacked. “Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long. I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now, and currently filing for divorce. “I would grant a press release soon to say my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed my people. I love you all”, he stated. Soon after the singer posted another message where he stated that his page had been hacked. It read, “My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #onelove!” In a later turn of events, 2Baba posted two videos clarifying the situation. He confirmed that his account had not been hacked, contradicting the previous claim. “Yo, bless some more people. Nobody hacked my accounts. Na me yarn weytin I yarn.” “Yo, my people man, nobody hacked my account. Nah me talk weytin I wan talk. You understand? I come in peace”, he stated in the video. PUNCH Metro gathered that following the announcement of their split, the singer faced backlash from some celebrities and social media users who criticized his decision, while few rallied around him in support. TV personality, Toke Makinwa, in a post responding to the singer’s post confirming his split from Annie, stated, “This is wrong on all levels, you should be ashamed for bringing this here. Bring it on, if you think she is alone; let me tell you here that you will have to fight us all.” In a post on her own Instagram account, Makinwa disclosed that women should take a stand against any wrongdoing, as it affects all females and shared that the issue shouldn’t be brought online, especially during a sensitive time. I’m not one for too much talk, but what is wrong is wrong. But as a woman, if you sit on the fence on this one, if it misses, it will touch your daughter or any female in your family. No one is innocent, and if you want to bring the media into it knowing what is happening, we will fight for her. “Nobody is asking anybody to stay in a situation that’s not serving them any purpose anymore. By all means, leave if you must but why bring this online, at this very moment? We know what is going on behind closed doors. The world doesn’t know anything, it’s already been hectic with opinions flying around and when I say we will fight for her. “I’m not talking about the general public, A handful of people know the truth and time will tell. Timing is everything. Empathy is everything. You constantly preach love, and you cannot add to the narrative that’s out there when you know what is happening behind closed doors”, she stated. Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku, shared on her Instagram page, “Bro, Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices, but since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. It’s your choice. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay. Because when the time comes, we’ll have plenty of questions for you!.” Nollywood actress, Uche Elendu expressed disappointment towards 2baba’s public announcement of his separation from Annie. “No love, No accountability, No loyalty, No culture, No bond, No memory, No decorum, No respect, No empathy. I am so disappointed at this betrayal and insensitive public announcement from 2face. At a time like this, love does not count errors. “The public does not need this information, you are too big for public validation. A woman that locked in on your mess in the public space, IDGAF what goes on behind us, but what we see, we believe. Men will stain your white!!! Most of them forget so fast. Annie left her life for the man she loved, but love has failed her. It is well”, she said. Big Brother Naija star, Nina Ivy, also expressed her opinion saying, “I can never, ever, ever be with a man who seeks public validation-never. A man who would dare to use my lowest moments to taunt me on social media? Not. A man who wouldn’t prioritise or support my mental health? Never, ever. Emphasis on never. “Ladies, you deserve peace and respect in a relationship. Being with someone who values your well-being, supports you privately and publicly, and nurtures your mental health is essential. A man who seeks public validation or uses your vulnerabilities against you shows a lack of emotional maturity and empathy. Protecting your peace and setting those boundaries is powerful. “When the whole world is against me and the pressure from others is on the rise, I don’t care what issues we’ve had or are still having. As a human being, you should never use a person’s lowest moment to taunt them or add to their struggles. Period!”, she stated. Calls made by our correspondent to reach 2Baba’s management team were not responded to as of the time of writing this report.
