A governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 elections in Oyo State, Hon Olayinka Segelu, has commiserated with victims of the building collapse which occurred in the early hours of Thursday at the Jegede Olunloyo area of Ona Ara Local Government Council of Oyo State. Ten persons were confirmed dead by the police with eight others said to have sustained different degrees of injuries. Hon Segelu, the Germany-based Ibadan-born businessman, politician and ICT consultant, in a statement he issued, expressed deep sadness over the tragic incident. His statement reads: “It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that I received news of the tragic building collapse that occurred in the Jegede Olunloyo locality of Ona Ara Local Government Area (LGA). The loss of ten precious lives and the injuries sustained by many others is a heart-wrenching tragedy that has cast a shadow over our town. “I commend the Oyo State Fire Service for their swift response, particularly Chief Fire Superintendent Jimoh and his team, who demonstrated remarkable courage in rescuing survivors from the rubble. Their efforts, along with those of local residents who acted heroically, exemplify the spirit of Ibadan in times of crisis. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and assure them that our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time. The emotional pain of losing loved ones is immeasurable, and we stand with you in solidarity. “I applaud the state government under the able and dynamic leadership of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his commitment to conducting a comprehensive integrity test of buildings around the vicinity to forestall future occurrence and safeguard our citizens. “Let me also appreciate Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, the Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, for his efforts at promptly activating a coordinated emergency response. “It is crucial that we learn from this tragedy to prevent such incidents from occurring again. “As your gubernatorial aspirant, I pledge to prioritize safety and infrastructure integrity across Oyo State. I urge everyone to contribute where they can, whether through donations, support, or simply by offering comfort to those in need.”

Manchester United Officially Appoint Ruben Amorim As Erik Ten Hag’s Replacement

Manchester United have confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as replacement for the recently sacked coach, Erik ten Hag. Amorim, 39, emerged as INEOS’ number-one target, with the club announcing their intention to activate his €10million (£8.4m) release clause on Monday. The Portuguese coach, who previously attracted interest from Liverpool and West Ham, also has a 30-day notice period in his Sporting contract but United have paid a further €1m to release him from that early. Amorim will now start work at Old Trafford during the international break and will take charge of the team for the first time against Ipswich Town on November 24. Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in charge on an interim basis for United’s next three games. ‘Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements,’ a statement from the club read. He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November. ‘Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years. Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins.’ Amorim has enjoyed a remarkable managerial rise in recent years, progressing from third-tier side Casa Pia to the Portuguese top flight in just over a year. Joining Sporting in 2020, he delivered the club’s first league title in 19 years in his first full season and repeated the feat in 2023, finishing 10 points ahead of second-placed Benfica. This season, Sporting have won their first nine games and sit six points clear of Porto at the top of the table. His immediate task at Old Trafford will be to spark an uptick in performances after a dire start to the season led INEOS to pull the plug on Ten Hag’s tenure. The Dutchman appeared to be heading for the exit at the end of last season but was granted a stay of execution and a one-year contract extension after guiding the Red Devils to an unlikely FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. However, despite being backed handsomely in the summer with over £200million spent on new signings, Ten Hag’s failed to show signs of tangible improvements to start the season. Heavy early-season defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham coupled with a disappointing start to the Europa League eventually brought to an end the Dutchman’s spell at Old Trafford. Ten Hag’s former assistant, van Nistelrooy, took charge of the team on an interim basis for the first time against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. He will take charge of three further games – Chelsea in the Premier League, PAOK in the Europa League, and Leicester again in the league – before handing over the reins to Amorim. His long-term coaching future at Old Trafford is currently unclear, with Amorim also keen to bring over some of his backroom staff from Sporting as part of the deal.

Teens Collapse In Court Before Arraignment Over Alleged Terrorism

About five out of the no fewer than 125 defendants brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja for arraignment collapsed on Friday few minutes after the commencement of proceedings. The defendants, who are mostly teens, were brought before Justice Obiora Egwuatu for arraignment on terrorism charge filed against them by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). They were alleged to have participated in the last #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano State, during which they allegedly chanted anti-government slogans and carried foreign flags. According to one of the defence lawyers, Marshall Abubakar, the defendants were charged in two batches of 76 and 49. Shortly after the first batch was called, the defendants were mounting the dock when some of them suddenly fell down, causing confusion in court, a development that prompted the judge to suspend proceedings. Health officials from the court’s clinic have been invited to attended to those who collapsed. Abubakar blamed the development on hunger and ill-health on the part of the defendants. He said most of the defendants were mostly teens of about 12 years old. He said: “All these young children are sick and hungry. They have been kept in police custody for weeks without food and proper medical care. They are sick and need proper attention. That is the cause of these unfortunate developments.” Details shortly.

Investigate Human Killing Claim on Fresh FM, ICIR Charges Police IG …. Says Isese Detests Human Killing, Engages Lawyer To Write Radio Station

The President of the International Council for Ifá Religion, Dr. Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode has said that there is nothing like human sacrifice in Yoruba Traditional Religion. He said this in his response to a viral video circulating on the internet which was recorded at a popular Radio Station in Ibadan, called Fresh FM recently. In the video, only the owner of the Radio, Yinka Ayefele is seeing interviewing a man whose face was not shown and the interviewee said he had killed many people for Òrìṣà. In a Press Release on Thursday, the President of ICIR said the claim was fabricated with the aim of tarnishing the image of Yoruba Traditional Religion. “Our attention has been drawn to a viral video, allegedly made in the Yinka Ayefele studio of Fresh FM in Ibadan where a man whose face was not shown said he had killed many human beings for Òrìsà. “It has been said before and we will continue to reiterate the fact that Yoruba Traditional Religion which is called Isese abhors human Killing and true Isese worshippers are repulsed upon seeing human blood. “Those behind this campaign have used every means to tarnish what the Creator gave us to worship him, but we will continue to speak against it; using human parts or blood for money or whatever ritual is alien to our religion and we will continue to fight against it. “We are surprised that a respected Radio Station in Ibadan can be used to launch this campaign of calumny against us and our cherished Isese, but we are using this opportunity to call on the Inspector General of Police and the Oyo State Police Command to immediately launch an investigation into the man’s claim to unearth the truth and arrest him and his sponsors.” He further said that the ICIR has instructed its lawyer to work with Yinka Ayefele in order to get the identity of the self-acclaimed ritual killer for the security agencies to do the needful. “We also advise Isese adherents to be calm and patient as we are sure that we will get to the bottom of the fabrication,” he urged. Signed: Dr. Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode, President, International Council for Ifa Religion (ICIR), Ile-Ife. Thursday, 31st October, 2024.
