Anthony Joshua Suspended From Boxing

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been handed a 28-day suspension from boxing by the British Boxing Board of Control following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last Saturday at Wembley Stadium. Joshua was floored four times and ultimately knocked out in the fifth round by Dubois’ devastating right hand. The suspension, a standard medical precaution after a KO or TKO loss, prevents Joshua from entering the boxing ring during this period. However, with no confirmed upcoming fights, this enforced break is unlikely to affect the former two-time heavyweight world champion’s immediate plans. Joshua’s loss to Dubois marks his fourth professional career loss, following setbacks against Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk. Despite speculation about his future, Joshua has dismissed retirement talks, expressing his determination to come back stronger. He has hinted at possibly invoking a rematch clause to face Dubois again. In a social media message, Joshua reflected on his career, saying, “We’ve got to look at the positives… It’s far from over yet,” while vowing to make the right steps forward to return to the top. Promoter Eddie Hearn has also suggested potential future bouts, including a long-awaited clash with Tyson Fury. Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, mentioned that Dubois could fight again in February, leaving the door open for a rematch if Joshua chooses to pursue it. Meanwhile, Joshua could also wait for the outcome of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout scheduled for December.   Business Day

Anthony Joshua Speaks On His Defeat After Sunday’s Fight

Anthony Joshua has finally broken his silence after being defeated by Daniel Dubois during a fight on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. The former two-time heavyweight champion said he remains resolute in his determination to reclaim the world title again. In a video statement posted on his X page on Monday, Joshua expressed his gratitude to his fans, saying, “We came up short, but look, we have to focus on all the positives. That’s the mindset, and that’s the perspective we need to adopt — a positive one. “Look at what we’ve achieved in the space of 11 years; it’s phenomenal, and I want to thank every single one of you who has been riding with me. What a rollercoaster journey, but you know what? The problem is that it’s far from over yet.” Reflecting on his career, Anthony Joshua acknowledged the challenges he has faced, stating, “You know we’ve done it once, we’ve done it twice. Doing it a third time hasn’t been easy, but I believe it’s something I can achieve.” However, he remains undeterred, asserting, “It’s about making the right steps forward, working hard, improving, and it has to come from within more than anything; it can’t come from any external voices or influences; it’s got to come from here.” Despite the setback, Joshua’s unwavering spirit shines through as he declares, “It’s only been a day, but when I sit back and think, I know I’ve got a lot of this man. I know I’ve got a lot of this, so yeah, just a video to say thanks for your support. “Thanks for being on this rollercoaster journey with me. Keep your seatbelts tight because deep down, I know we’ve got a lot more to bring — a lot more to bring to the game, and long may it continue. British boxing, I appreciate you; we rise together. Let’s go.” This loss marks Joshua’s second career knockout defeat and casts doubt on his hopes of regaining a world title for the third time. However, the former champion has vowed to show his resilience and determination.

Dubois Claims Victory Over Anthony Joshua With Knockout

Daniel Dubois flout all expectations as he knocked down Anthony Joshua in five rounds at Wembley Stadium. Dubois retained the IBF heavyweight world title but it was a stunning upset as he took apart the acclaimed former two-time world heavyweight champion. A monstrous right hand to the chin dropped Joshua heavily in the first round. In the second, Dubois swarmed all over him and Joshua was shipping severe shots. Joshua was saved by the bell at the end of the third round. A massive left hook had sent him tottering into the ropes, stunning him, and Dubois then unleashed a ferocious onslaught, hammering him down to the canvas again. He made it upright on the bell to end the round and passed a close examination from referee Marcus McDonnell. But a Dubois left hook tipped him over at the start of the fourth round. Joshua lost his footing afterwards which was not ruled a knockdown but he was in desperate danger. Dubois’ left hook continued to find Joshua, but remarkably the former champion steered himself through the rest of the round. After such a frenetic start there were hints that Dubois was starting to tire. His output became a touch less ferocious. Joshua sensed something. He roared back at Dubois for a moment in the fifth round and slammed a right in. He sent another over, a full-power right cross streaking at Dubois. He felt it but threw it back. Joshua shrugged off that punch with half a smile and unleashed another attack. Just for an instant it looked like Joshua, with his strength, could turn the tables. But with Dubois retreating to his corner, and Joshua stepping to him, Dubois lashed a right down into his chin. It spun him away, crumpling Joshua headlong onto the canvas. There was no recovery from that, although Joshua tried. He attempted to heave himself upright, but the ending was utterly decisive. It was over. Wembley Stadium, the scene of Joshua’s greatest triumph when he beat Wladimir Klitschko long ago now in 2017, had become the scene of his most devastating defeat. Meanwhile, In front of a record crowd at Wembley Stadium, the occasion was spectacular. For Joshua winning Dubois’ IBF title would have made him a three-time heavyweight world champion. It would also no doubt have put him in prime position to take on the winner of December’s Oleksandr Usyk-Tyson Fury rematch for the undisputed championship. That has all been ripped away. Instead, Dubois, an unlikely heavyweight star, has seized that place. Dubois will be hugely gratified to have stamped his mark on the division. Questions have haunted him since his defeat to Joe Joyce almost four years ago. A fractured eye socket saw him take a knee and the referee’s full count then. He continued to test himself and took the ultimate challenge against unified champion Usyk in Poland last year. Usyk halted him too but Dubois has bounced back, building confidence in his victories over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic. In the process, he picked up the IBF’s interim belt and saw that upgraded to the full world title when Usyk’s commitment to the Fury rematch meant he could not make a mandatory defence. But this victory will take him to a whole other level, smashing through a British boxing superstar at Wembley Stadium is an astonishing accomplishment. “I’ve only got a few words to say: Are you not entertained?” Dubois exulted afterwards. “It’s been a long journey, I’m grateful to be in this position. “I’m a gladiator, I’m a warrior to the bitter end. I want to reach the top level of this game and reach my full potential. “I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride. This is my time, this is my redemption story, and I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.” Admirably Joshua took the microphone in the immediate aftermath of that crushing defeat. “Credit to him and his team. We rolled the dice of success, but we came up short,” he said. “You know I’m ready to kick off in the ring, but I’m going to keep my cool, keep very professional, and give respect to my opponent. “I had a sharp opponent, a fast opponent and a lot of mistakes from my end, but that’s the game. “I’m always saying to myself I’m a fighter for life… We keep rolling the dice.” Some of boxing’s biggest stars were in attendance, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk watching out for a potential rival, Roberto Duran and Terence Crawford taking ringside seats, Rory McIlroy, Conor McGregor, and figures from other sports as well as celebrities from the world of entertainment, not least with Oasis superstar Liam Gallagher performing three songs before the main event to add to the sense of occasion

The drugs, weighing approximately 60 kilograms, were found in two suitcases that had arrived on a flight from Bangkok on September 2. According to the National Crime Agency (NCA), Emmanuel-Thomas was promptly arrested and charged with importing class B drugs. The footballer, once praised by Arsène Wenger for his potential, is now in custody and is set to appear at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Thursday to answer the charges. Senior Investigating Officer at the NCA, David Phillips, emphasized the agency’s commitment to tackling drug smuggling operations, noting that they work closely with Border Force to target both couriers and those organizing such crimes. Gonçalo Inácio Phillips said: “The NCA continues to work with partners like Border Force to target those involved in drug smuggling – that includes both the couriers and the organizers. “We would appeal to anyone who is approached to engage in any kind of smuggling to think very carefully about the likely consequences of their actions, and the potentially life-changing risks they will be taking.” Emmanuel-Thomas, who began his football career at Arsenal’s youth academy at just eight years old, made his Premier League debut in 2010 in a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea. However, after struggling to secure a place in the first team, he left Arsenal in 2011, signing with Ipswich Town for £1.1 million.

Ghana To Relocate 2025 AFCON Qualifiers To Nigeria Amid Stadium Approval Issues

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, faces the possibility of relocating their remaining home matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers to Nigeria. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has withdrawn its approval for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi due to significant structural and maintenance issues identified in a recent inspection. Concerns over an uneven playing surface, inadequate drainage, and poor grass cover were cited as reasons for the decision. The Baba Yara Stadium’s troubles are part of a broader issue affecting several Ghanaian venues, including the Cape Coast Stadium and the Accra Sports Stadium, which also face similar problems. Consequently, CAF has instructed Ghana to find an alternative venue for their Matchday 3 and 4 fixtures scheduled for October. The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, is a leading candidate to host these matches. With a capacity of 30,000, it is the home ground for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Other potential venues under consideration include Côte d’Ivoire’s Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala, and Morocco’s Berkane Municipal Stadium. The Ghana Football Association is expected to announce its final decision and notify CAF in the coming days.
