Pastor Enenche Rejects N30m Donation From Kebbi Governor

The Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, has rejected a N30 million donation offered by the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, during a crusade organised by the church in the state. The gesture occurred at the Kebbi Healing and Deliverance Crusade, where a representative of the governor, Kebbi’s Commissioner for Social Duties, Zayyanu Umar Aliero, announced the cash gift on behalf of the governor. Aliero told the gathering that the N30m was approved as a donation to the crusade’s organising committee and was available in cash. Aliero said, “Our Governor, His Excellency Dr Nasir Idris, a faithful Governor and also a Comrade Governor, who you all know is the only Comrade Governor in this country. He has therefore graciously approved the donation of the sum of 30 million naira to this gathering. “That is to the organising committee. His Excellency has approved the donation of a sum of 30 million naira to the organising committee, which you know that whenever His Excellency makes a donation, he doesn’t leave without bringing that donation in cash. So before I leave this stage, I want to present that sum of 30 million naira in cash.” However, Enenche declined the offer, taking to the stage to urge that the money be redirected to charitable causes. “If there is anything like orphanage, if there is anything like that, at your discretion, please apply this amount of money to it. No. It will not be received,” the senior pastor said. Speaking later, Enenche explained the church’s stance, emphasising that public funds should be used solely for public causes. “We are one of those who believe that government money should be used for government projects and government things should be used for government things; and church money should be used for church things, not mixed together. “That is what we did that is what we do. As small as the Glory Dome is right there, government money is not in it. From land to the building to everything,” he said. He added that the body of Christ should “trust God for supernatural supplies.” He suggested that the donation be handed over to a government-approved religious body instead, such as the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board or the Christian Association of Nigeria. “This is so that we can retain our dignity as a body of Christ; retain our dignity as a church, and say what we need to say when we need to say it. And be able to say what we need to say when we need to say it,” he said. Aliero, speaking after the rejection, acknowledged Enenche’s position. “They don’t accept it because whatever he is doing, he is doing it for the sake of God. We really appreciate and we really thank him for what he is doing in our state,” he said. Punch

Emirate Strips Ex-Kano SSG Of Waziri Title

The Gaya Emirate Council in Kano State has withdrawn the traditional title of Wazirin Gaya from a former Secretary to the Kano State Government and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Usman Alhaji. Usman Alhaji served as SSG under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration. Although the Emirate did not give a specific reason for the decision, the move comes days after the former SSG, under the banner of the “APC Patriotic Volunteers,” accused Governor Abba Yusuf’s New Nigeria People’s Party-led administration of lacking direction, competence, and clear policy initiatives. The withdrawal was conveyed in a letter dated Wednesday and issued by the Secretary of the Gaya Emirate Council, Alhaji Bello Halilu. According to a statement signed by the Gaya Zonal Information Officer, Munzali Muhammad Hausawa, the decision takes immediate effect and was based on “certain unavoidable circumstances.” The Emirate Council, however, expressed appreciation for Alhaji Usman Alhaji’s contributions to the traditional institution and his support in promoting the cultural values of the emirate during his time as Wazirin Gaya. “This action underscores the Emirate’s commitment to preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of traditional titles in line with established customs and values. “The general public is hereby informed and urged to take note of this development,” the statement read. As of the time of filing this report, the former SSG had yet to react to the decision. Punch

Benue: Tinubu Charge Security Agencies On Arrest, Flushing Out Perpetrators•••As Alia Advocates Establishment Of A Special Intervention Fund For Communities Affected By Attacks

MAKURDI: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has charged security agencies to work towards gathering information that would ensure that that armed herdsmen terrorizing Benue State, were flushed out of Benue State. The President who was in Benue, on Wednesday, to commiserate with the people of the state over the killing of over a hundred persons in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, also urged security agencies ensure that the killings comes to an end. Meanwhile, the Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has called for the establishment of a Special Intervention Fund for communities affected by herdsmen attacks, pointing out that such a fund would be used to support and rehabilitate displaced persons, among other interventions. But charging the police to arrest the perpetrators of the act, to serve as a deterrent, President Tinubu, told the military to put its ears on the ground and work on getting the desired information that would stop a reoccurrence of such incidences. President Tinubu, who was speaking during a town hall meeting at Government House, Makurdi, also directed that a Committee of Elders, comprising past governors and traditional rulers be established, to fashion out modalities for ending the killings and tackling other teething problems confronting the state. The President noted that as soon as the Committee was set up, he would convene a meeting that would be held in Abuja, where they would come up with ideas that would bring about lasting peace, adding that he would personally invest in the project. He further proposed the setting up of another Committee comprising the people of the state as well as non indigene, that would identify issues that would move the state forward. President Tinubu further advised Governor Hyacinth Alia, not to be deterred or distracted by comments from his critics, but should use such criticism as a stepping stone towards achieving his desired results. Equally, the President appealed to the people of Benue, to support Governor Alia, to succeed and to encourage him, in order to achieve his set goals, even as he assured Alia that he would eventually get the desired peace and a second term. While consoling families of the bereaved and the people of the state over the loss, the president said he was saddened that he was coming to the state to condole the people, instead of commissioning projects. In his address at the occasion, the State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, said “The attacks on the peace-loving and good people of Benue state have persisted for well over decade. This, we have cause to feel is a calculated attempt targeted at annihilating us and taking over our ancestral homes. “Your Excellency, this visit of yours marks the very first time, we will have the president of the nation visit us on the account of insecurity. We believe this will bring an end to the security challenges that have persisted against our people in Benue State. “Even though our eyes of full of tears and emotional grief due to the loss of our loved ones, our properties, farmlands and ancestral homes, our hopes are ignited by your visit. “Before the visit, the service chiefs and different security formations have come and we are hopeful that, this visit will bring the lasting peace the people of Benue State have long yearned for. Your presence is a form of unimaginable reassurance and we are confident that, never again will our people be subjected to this degree of underserved and barbaric inhumanity. “Your Excellency, while we continue to mourn our losses and rebuild from the ashes of pain, we humbly urge the Federal Government to consider establishing a special intervention fund for communities affected by these incessant attacks in Benue state. “Such a fund would go a long way in supporting the rehabilitation of displaced persons, rebuilding of destroyed infrastructure, and restoring the livelihoods of our farmers and families whose lives have been upended. Our administration will keep working to ensure that our people are not only safe but can thrive again on their own land. “My inestimable debt of gratitude goes to His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his love and concern for the people of Benue State, eminently demonstrated by his prompt visit to the state in the wake of the attack on Yelwata community. “The President’s decision to cancel other engagements of state concern to personally pay us a visit is an unquestionable demonstration of true leadership. We commend the efforts of all security agencies and formations in Benue State. We sincerely wish to solicit that, these efforts be improved and more drastic security measures be taken to confront these challenges better. Earlier, the Tor Tiv, HRM, Prof James Ayatse, had informed President Tinubu, that what was happening in the state was not farmers/herders clashes, but genocidal attacks that have been ongoing for over a decade. He also noted that he was confident of the capability of the president to end the killings in the state. The Tor Tiv, condemned the politicization of the killing by Benue sons, that would lead to a declaration of a state of emergency, he appreciated the president for finding the sons of the state, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) worthy of appointments into his cabinet.

Benue: PFN Demands Prompt Action From President Tinubu

IBADAN – The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to end the persistent killings and kidnappings in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the country. In a statement issued on Tuesday, PFN President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, described the situation in Benue State as a national tragedy, urging the federal government to rise to the occasion with urgent and effective intervention. Bishop Wale Oke stressed the need for the government to reclaim territories allegedly taken over by terrorists and restore them to their rightful indigenous owners. He noted that the continuous attacks on innocent civilians had led to widespread displacement and trauma, especially in Benue State. “The PFN sympathizes with the Governor and people of Benue State over the relentless killings. We are deeply concerned about the alarming state of insecurity in the nation, with Benue being a critical flashpoint that has suffered for too long,” he said. Faulting the current security architecture, the PFN President said a comprehensive overhaul is urgently needed. “The current security system has failed us. Killings are taking place across the country, and the carnage has been relentless. What is happening in Benue is not a case of two parties fighting; it is an invasion by illegally armed bandits seeking to displace and dominate indigenous communities,” he stated. Bishop Oke further condemned the repeated attacks on Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, describing them as “heinous acts” against vulnerable citizens who should have been under state protection. “This is not about Benue people killing themselves. These are external invaders committing atrocities. If any state deserves a declaration of emergency, it is Benue,” he added. While acknowledging President Tinubu’s recent directive for special security forces to move into Benue, Bishop Oke said the action appeared belated and insufficient given the scale of the crisis. “It is not enough to visit as a ‘Mourner-in-Chief.’ The President must act with the full weight of his office and protect the lives and land of the Benue people. Treating this as internal conflict is misleading and dangerous,” he warned. He also extended the PFN’s concerns to Plateau, Taraba, and other regions suffering similar attacks, urging the Federal Government to restore law and order across affected areas. “The Federal Government owes Nigerians a duty to restore peace and security. We believe President Tinubu has the capacity to handle the situation if he acts boldly and decisively,” Bishop Oke emphasized. He concluded with a call for credible, impartial leadership in the security sector, saying: “We cannot continue to ask the cat to watch over the meat. The time has come to place the right people in charge of protecting Nigerians.” The PFN reiterated its prayers for the people of Benue, Plateau, and the nation at large, while urging swift and genuine action from the presidency.

“We’re Tired Of Killings”- Senate Declares••• Reiterates Commitment To National Security Summit•••To Join Tinubu On Visit To Benue

ABUJA – The Senate on Tuesday declared that it was tired of the continued senseless killings in parts of the country, particularly in Benue State. Spokesman of the Red Chamber, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, briefing newsmen at the National Assembly, said the House was “tired of the killings and mournings. The time to act is now. Security is local and locals must be part of the solution.” “About the tragic incident in Benue: it was very unfortunate. We sympathize with the victims and families affected. “The Senate, in collaboration with the executive, will visit Benue tomorrow with a delegation of Senators to commiserate.” He urged for collective and concrete action to stem the tide of killings across the country. Adaramodu said, “More importantly, we are organizing a national security summit, not just for the military, but for CSOs, media, women, youth, and other critical stakeholders because enough is enough. We cannot keep going from Plateau to Benue, paying condolence visits. “We are tired of the killings and mornings. The time has come to act. Security is local, and locals must be part of the solution. “With Mr. President’s support, the Senate and the House have appropriated adequate funds to support the military and security agencies. Together with traditional rulers and communities, we must put a stop to this bloodshed. “We are tired of the killings and mournings. “We cannot keep going from Plateau to Benue, paying condolence visits. The time has come to act.” “To this end, the Senate announced plans to convene a National Security Summit, a multi-stakeholder gathering that will bring together not only military and law enforcement agencies but also civil society organisations, the media, women, youth groups, traditional rulers, and local communities. Security is local, and locals must be part of the solution. With Mr. President’s support, the Senate and the House have appropriated adequate funds to support the military and security agencies.” He also revealed that the Senators would join President Bola Tinubu’s entourage, Wednesday, to the state for an on the spot assessment of the situation. Tinubu had abandoned a scheduled visit to Kaduna for an urgent touchdown to Benue. Recall, the latest massacre happened on June 12 where over 200 people were said to have been killed, and settlements sacked. Senator Adaramodu further added “Together with traditional rulers and communities we must put a stop to this bloodshed.” On the planned security summit, the Senate Spokesman said the summit will be an opportunity to clinically diagnose the root causes of insecurity in the country, and to forge better approaches to addressing the problem. According to him, the summit will not be another “talk shop.” “When we hold the national security summit, we hope to uncover hidden problems and find lasting solutions to the killings of innocent Nigerians,” says Adaramodu.

Peter Obi Slams Tinubu’s Delayed Response To National Tragedies

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s delayed visit to crisis-hit regions of the country. Obi warned that selective empathy and “leadership by remote control” send a dangerous message to grieving Nigerians In a post on X handle on Tuesday, Obi hailed Tinubu’s planned visit to Benue massacre communities but noted that similar compassion should be shown to communities in Niger State, particularly Mokwa, where floods reportedly claimed over 200 lives and left more than 1,000 people missing. “It was refreshing news on Monday to a bewildered nation learning that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally decided to visit the scene of the brutal killings in Benue State. For this, I thank him. “Even as I make further request that similar gesture should be extended to Niger state that lost more number of human lives in a natural disaster, flood recently. “Given the emergency nature of these incidents, a prompt visit would have delivered the urgency needed instead of giving future dates that make it look like a state visit,” Obi said. Obi stressed that presidential presence in disaster-hit areas can be “very reassuring and uplifting” for grieving communities, adding that the scale of devastation in both Benue and Niger demanded equal national attention. “Both Benue and Niger States have lost over 200 lives each due to recent tragedies. In Mokwa alone, more than 200 people were confirmed dead, and over 1,000 are still missing following the floods. These are not just statistics; they are the lives of Nigerian families torn apart and their communities destroyed,” he wrote. Obi noted that the distances from Abuja to both Makurdi and Mokwa are “not far”, about 282km and 287km, respectively. He contrasted this with a recent trip made by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who travelled over 1,800km round trips to visit flood victims in Mthatha, where fewer than 100 people died. Obi said,”If the South African President could do it, we trust that you, as our own President, can do the same for your people. “Let your visit to Mokwa send a strong message, that all Nigerian lives matter, and that no community, no matter how rural, is forgotten.” He concluded by urging Tinubu to not only show up physically but also enhance security and disaster preparedness, especially in vulnerable regions. “We look forward to seeing not leadership by remote control but proactive leadership that responds not just with words, but with compassion and action,” Obi added. Oyo Gov’t, Cyclist Aiming Guinness World Record Set To Train 18 Orphans

The Oyo State Government is set to make a historic entry into the Guinness Book of Records as it backs an attempt by Ibadan-based cyclist, Ebaide Joy who will embark on a record-breaking motorcycle journey across 12 African countries in July. The mission will not only challenge the Guinness World Record for the longest solo ride by a female biker- currently at 30,000 kilometers, but will also provide life-changing vocational training for 18 orphaned girls who have a similar background of growing up in orphanage institutions in Nigeria like Joy did. The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Toyin Balogun who announced this in a statement on Monday, in Ibadan said the feat, officially approved by Guinness World Records, has full support from the Ministry of Women Affairs and social development. She said this is in a bid to empower vulnerable girls and amplify the voices of African women on the global stage. Balogun’s words, “Ebaide Joy is a daring female motorcyclist and philanthropist who is set to embark on a record-breaking motorcycle journey across 12 African countries.” She pledged institutional backing for Ebaide’s mission, describing her initiative as one that dovetails neatly with the ministry’s core mandate for the sustainable empowerment and alleviation of poverty from vulnerable demographics. She added that the ministry, with the backing of His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, would be delighted to support the training and post-graduation empowerment of the 18 beneficiaries. “Once these girls complete their training, the ministry will work with your team to provide startup grants and equipment to ensure they achieve sustainable livelihoods,” she said. She observed that Ebaide’s initiative aligns with the state’s broader goal of the ministry. “This is more than a just record-breaking adventure or an adrenaline chasing venture. It’s a symbol of the resilience, courage, and commitment to breaking glass ceilings of the female demographic,” Hon. Balogun stated. She said, “You’ve been able to rise above personal and physical challenges, including being orphaned at a young age,a spinal cord injury from an accident to creating a platform for other vulnerable girls to thrive. That is not only truly extraordinary,it’s remarkable, worth celebrating and what’s more, deserving of support.” “This partnership is timely, strategic, and has a nexus with the Makinde administration’s people-centric agenda on sustainable empowerment”, the Honorable Commissioner stated. Ebaide Joy’s solo journeies are filmed with a camera mounted on her motorcycle, showcasing not only the gruelling physical demands of the journey, but also the stories of the people she meets along the way. Ebaide described her travels as the “highlight of her life,” noting that the adrenaline, purpose, and mission fuel her resolve even in moments of exhaustion. Her upcoming trip begins in July, 2025 and is expected to take three months. Upon her return to Nigeria, she plans to host a graduation ceremony for the empowered girls, marking a new chapter in their lives and continuing her mission of impact through adventure. Ebaide Joy said that her journey is not just about breaking a record; it’s about breaking cycles of poverty. “I grew up an orphan, and I understand the struggles and vulnerabilities they face. This journey is not just about breaking a record; it’s about breaking cycles of poverty,” Evaida told the Commissioner Hon( Mrs) Toyin Balogun and other officials during her visit. This program will be empowering 18 orphaned girls with three months of intensive vocational training in tailoring, hairdressing, and catering.
