Ekiti Gov Assures Resumption Of Ado-Ijan Road Construction

Ekiti Gov Assures Resumption Of Ado-Ijan Road Construction

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has said that the state, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has resolved all issues that led to the temporary abandonment of the Ado-Ijan-Aisegba road project by the contractor in charge. Oyebanji assured residents and road users that work would soon resume on the road following the resolution of the issue that caused abandonment. The governor, who spoke at Aisegba Ekiti on Saturday during the burial service of the late Chief Mathew Fatoba, the father of his Aide-de-Camp, said, “I assure you that I see the road leading here from Ado Ekiti. It is part of our efforts. “The Federal Government has awarded the road, and the contractor has moved to the site, but they left for one reason or another. “But by His grace, the Lord has helped us to settle it; very soon, the contractor will go back to the site,” the governor said. Oyebanji commended President Bola Tinubu for his support for the state, saying, “The president’s policies have helped in addressing infrastructure gaps as well as promoting economic development and welfare of citizens.” This was as the state government over the weekend, listed alternative routes to the state capital, “while the federal and Ekiti State governments work out lasting solutions to some bad portions of roads leading to the state”. The alternative routes, as contained in a travel advisory to ease your journey into Ado Ekiti, are: “From Lagos/Ibadan: Iwaraja – Efon – Ipole – Ikogosi – Erijinyan – Ilawe – Ado Ekiti. From Akure: Akure – Igbara Oke – Igbara Odo – Ilawe – Ado Ekiti, and from Abuja: Kabba – Irun Akoko – Iro Ekiti – Isinbode – Ikole – Igbemo – Ekiti Ring Road – Ado Ekiti.” The advisory stated, “The state government will continue to invest in road infrastructure, while also working collaboratively with the Federal Government to ensure the remaining two federal roads, that are yet to be awarded, are fixed”. A public service announcement by the State Ministry of Works stated that “currently, the Ado-Ikere-Akure Road has been awarded, and work is ongoing; the Ado-Ijan Ekiti Road has also been awarded, with work in progress” on the two federal roads. Awujale Stool: Family Kicks Over Exclusion From Royal Lineage

Awujale Stool: Family Kicks Over Exclusion From Royal Lineage

The Adeyemi ruling house of the Anikilaya dynasty has faulted their exclusion from the Anikilaya ruling house, one of the ruling houses producing candidates for the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State. Recall that the Anikilaya ruling house produced the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who joined his ancestors last month. The family, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday and signed by Adedeji Ademola Adeyemi, said a few members of the Anikilaya ruling house deliberately distorted history by removing the name of the Adeyemis from the family lineage. Adeyemi explained that Adeyemi Anikilaya was the eldest crown prince of the late Oba Anikilaya Saagun, while Ogbagba and Ademolu were his remaining two sons. He explained that “Prince Ademola Aiyegbajeje Adeyemi was selected for the stool of Awujale after the demise of Oba Daniel Adesanya, Gbelegbuwa the II, in 1959, but he rejected the offer. “His immediate brother, Prince Mubashiru Adedipupo Adeyemi, the father of late Oba SK Adetona, contested and pushed forward his son, Sikiru Kayode Adetona of the Adeyemi Anikilaya family, who received the blessings of the kingmakers and was crowned Awujale in 1960.” The Adeyemi ruling house said it rejected a claim by some members of the family who refused to recognise the Adeyemis as the eldest son but erroneously gave the headship to the second-born and added two others who were not part of the family to the royal family lineage. He explained that “Putting the record straight, the Adeyemi ruling house rejected the inclusion of Mabadeje, Adekoya Ofirigidi, and Adeire Adeewu, who were unknown alleged children of late Oba Anikilaya Saagun Figbajoye, who reigned in 1821. “The Adeyemi ruling house reiterates that they remain descendants of Adeyemi Anikilaya, the eldest son of the late Oba Anikilaya Saagun Figbajoye, Awujale of Ijebu Ode till 1821. The family, therefore, implores the world to disregard the so-called submissions of a few misguided members of the family posted in the media, whose submissions are inconsequential and fraught with falsehood.

The event, held at the foundation’s Building in Ibadan, was part of the foundation’s annual activities to mark International Youth Day (IYD). It brought together young innovators, creatives, startup founders, NGO leaders, and community builders to explore how cross-sector collaboration can accelerate sustainable development. Co-host Ayo Adams opened the event with inspiring remarks, followed by an interactive session led by moderator Oyinkansola Oluwade. The program which featured impactful sessions from industry experts, including: Islamiat Adekola, Visitmas, Ayileka Samuel, and Adeoya Adegboyega, delved into key messages on the power of storytelling in marketing, the importance of giving before receiving in business, and the value of building collaborative communities even in competitive spaces. A Broadcaster, Islamiyah Adekola, who spoke on “Owning Your Voice: Creativity for Social Impact”, called for distinctives and uniqueness to make a difference. “You don’t have to be a painter or a writer to be creative. Doing things differently, like Tunde Onakoya’s chess activism or a lawyer using unconventional advocacy is creativity. Tenacity and uniqueness make all the difference”, she said. She also admonished participants to embrace authenticity, enunciating that their voice is their brand. “focus on the value you bring and how it can create social impact. Creativity is about solving problems in ways that reflect who you truly are.”, she added. Notable attendees such as Ibrahim Oredola added to the depth and vibrancy of the conversations, as he juxtapositioned the impact of consistency and enjoying what you do, with just doing it once and giving up, citing examples like Arojinle, who even though did not make a dime from telling the stories of animals for the the first few years of content creation, has today become a household name in that niche. To close the event the President of Karim Adeyemi Foundation, Mr Abiodun Adeyemi reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to creating sustainable, youth-driven communities in Ibadan and beyond. In his words “ECOLOGUE 1.0 is just the beginning. We want to continue creating spaces where young people can connect, collaborate, and drive real change. Akinremi Immortalized, As Gov. Makinde Names Housing Estate After The Deceased Rep Member

Akinremi Immortalized, As Gov. Makinde Names Housing Estate After The Deceased Rep Member

IBADAN – THE Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has unveiled the Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban Government Reserved Area (GRA) to immortalise the late All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency from 2019 till his death on July 10, 2024. ‎Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, during the unveiling of the project held at the Dominion University Road, Samonda, Ibadan, also announced that the ongoing reconstruction of UI-Samonda Road linking Sango/Poly Road would be completed soon.‎ The ‎governor maintained that his decision to name the GRA after Akinremi has nothing to do with politics, noting that the state government chose to honour the memories of the late lawmaker for his notable achievements in Ibadan North Federal Constituency and Oyo State. He assured that the project would be delivered to standard as everything needed in terms of infrastructure and other facilities in the estate were already on the ground. Makinde equally appreciated another APC chieftain and Ekefa Olubadan, High Chief Akinade Fijabi, for attending the event despite being an opposition party member. Barrister Lawal said: “Today, what we are doing is very significant. I was with the governor in July 2024 when they called him from Abuja to inform him about the death of Jagaban. He said to me that ‘we have lost a gem in Ibadanland.’ “From that moment till this time, the governor and I thought on how to immortalise this gentleman, and he said immortalisation is not about giving money, building houses and giving out material things but about doing something that would be more enduring. So, the governor said there is a parcel of land at Samonda, which we can use to build an Estate and name it after Jagaban. “So, I am very happy on behalf of the governor that the promise he made that day has come to pass today. This and everything that everyone has said about Jagaban have shown that he lived well in his time. What this means to us is that what we do in life will continue to live after us as human beings. “Let me use this opportunity to say that, as a government, we are doing what we are supposed to do and that is why we are immortalising Jagaban today. “My prayer is that the Almighty Allah should uphold all the things he left. “So, on behalf of the governor, I want to appreciate all of you here. I have inspected this Estate personally and I have seen that all the things needed to build the infrastructure and other things are ready. “The governor has also given the solid assurance that the roads linking this Estate up to Sango would be fixed and they are being fixed right now. “Strictly speaking, what we are doing today is not about politics.” In his welcome address at the event, the chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluseun Olufade, lauded the governor for immortalising a worthy indigene of Ibadan North by naming the GRA after him. He urged political and public office holders to learn a lesson from the uncommon gesture, just as he hailed the governor for executing a lot of infrastructure development projects in the council. In his remarks, the chairman of the day, High Chief Fijabi, commended Governor Makinde for the laudable infrastructural projects he has been executing in the state and for running an inclusive government that cares for everyone, irrespective of political affiliations. He urged the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency to seal the immortalization of Hon. Akinremi by voting massively for Hon. Folajinmi Oyekunle, the PDP candidate in the by-election to fill the vacant Ibadan North House of Representatives seat slated for Saturday, August 16, 2025. Speaking on behalf of the Akinremi family, Alhaji Abideen Akinremi thanked Governor Makinde for his support to the family since the demise of their brother, assuring that the family would continue to remember the gesture. In their separate goodwill messages and tribute to the late Prince Akinremi, Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun and a member of the Akinremi Legacy Forum, Mr Michael Adegbuyi, appreciated Governor Makinde for honouring him through the generational project. Also speaking, the representative of the contractor, Messrs Gazzle Nigeria Limited, Mr Tomiwa Bickersteth, commended Governor Makinde for the project, which he described as a befitting legacy for the deceased. The event had in attendance a former deputy governor of Oyo State, Barr Hazeem Gbolarumi; member representing Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Consistency, Hon Anthony Adepoju; members representing Ibadan North I and II state constituencies in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Comforter Olajide and Hon Gabriel Babajide; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Adeniyi. Others were the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr Akin Williams -Funmilayo; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Ademola Ojo; Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola; Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon Segun Olayiwola; traditional rulers; religious leaders and members of the Akinremi Legacy Forum, among other dignitaries.

Domestic Workers Relive Moments With Buhari One Month After Death

Domestic Workers Relive Moments With Buhari One Month After Death

One month after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, his domestic workers in Daura say the void left by their late boss is yet to be filled. Buhari, who died at a London hospital on July 13, 2025, aged 82, was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. Known for his humility and personal touch, the former president, they said, was more than an employer — he was a mentor, friend, and guardian. “Our late boss was more than our employer, he was a guardian and a close friend to us and our families,” one worker, who requested anonymity, told The PUNCH. “This one month with the thought of his no return has indeed shown a cool world of emptiness around here.” Another staff member recalled Buhari’s habit of attending personal milestones of his workers. “He would visit our homes for condolences or naming ceremonies, staying for hours to offer comfort and prayers without regard for his status,” the worker said. “He will be missed because we have lost a friend, mentor, and employer. His presence brought us pride.” During a visit to Buhari’s residence on Wednesday, our correspondent observed a well-decorated gravesite in the late president’s compound, draped in green and white — the colours of the Nigerian flag. The once-bustling streets around the house have returned to normal, with only a light security presence compared to the heavy deployment in the days after his burial. A source close to the family said preparations were underway for the 40-day prayer ceremony, expected to draw large crowds back to Daura. “After Baba’s burial and the relocation of his family to Kaduna, the area has been quiet. Insha Allah, in the next 10 days, the family will return for the prayers,” the source said. Neighbours in Daura also paid tribute to Buhari’s legacy. Mohammed Ibrahim described him as “a well-cultured, humble, and disciplined individual” who valued time, upheld daily prayers, and treated all with respect. The former president’s death, they said, has left a lasting reminder of life’s brevity and of the character that made him beloved in his hometown and beyond.

A Closer Look at Representation in Ondo South: a missed Opportunity? By Dayo Awotula.

A Closer Look at Representation in Ondo South: a missed Opportunity? By Dayo Awotula.

As constituents, we must always assess the bond of social contract between us and our representatives sent either to The National or State Assembly. We are motivated by goings on around us to turn our attention to Ondo South Senatorial District — a region with immense potentials yet one that appears to be facing Senatorial leadership deficit in Abuja. Needless to say this discourse is warranted by the concern of this writer, who is from Ondo South and whose ancestral place of birth is Igbolomi in Ilajeland, the coastal swathe of land which contributes greatly to the national revenue based on the natural resources Providence has provided beneath the Ilaje earth crust. Definitely , I am proud to be from Ondo South and should be unbiased about the input of leaders we have sent to represent us. At the center of this Leadership cum representative concern is no other person than Senator Jimoh Ibrahim,CFR, multiple holders of Phd degrees obtained from studies abroad, cerebral and current representative of Ondo South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate. While his academic credentials are notable, enviable and praise worthy, concerns are growing about his effectiveness in translating the deluge of knowledge he possesses into tangible outcomes for his constituents. Elementary understanding of quality representation, the type he campaigned for across Ondo South which made him win the Senate seat , should mean presence, advocacy, and results — particularly in terms of infrastructure, youth empowerment, and federal inclusion. But after two years in office, there are growing concerns that Senator Ibrahim has fallen short of these expectations, sadly so because he represents an academic paradigm shift in the caliber of Senators that have been chosen by the good people of Ondo South to legislate on their behalf at the Senate. Rather than channeling influence to attract federal presence or real time development projects beyond tokenism to Ondo South, the senator is said to have prioritized self-promotion on the global stage — leaving his district with limited federal engagement and little to show in terms of major senatorial projects. One example drawing public criticism will suffice : rather than advocating for federal employment opportunities for qualified youths from Ondo South, the senator reportedly distributes ₦50,000 stipends to a select few every four months. That’s ₦12,500 a month — barely enough for a single meal a day. Critics warned that this approach is unsustainable and does little to prepare the next generation for leadership in federal institutions. We as concerned youths of Ondo South who know the leadership capacity of our Senator and his leverage as a billionaire business mogul and politician stand to be corrected that this tokenism from our Senator is an intentional approach to underdevelop the youths and tying them permanently to the apron string of ‘ The Lord of the Manor’ in the district. Let us take a look at another veneer of the Policy posturing of our Ondo South Senator which he tagged ‘the Aseyori Card’ , a phenomenon he claimed will become the almighty social security symbol for the constituents which he stressed will be the automated card that will grant the holders across Ondo South access to all the good things of life such as fund , provisions and groceries that will be railroaded to the districts in trucks and lorry loads at quarterly intervals all through his tenure of Senatorial representation at The Senate. In barely two years, it has become unfortunately obvious that Senator Jimoh Ibrahim’s much-touted “Kaadi Aseyori” which he claimed was inspired by insights from his PhD research, has so far proven to be little more than an elaborate performance piece — long on academic posturing, short on practical value. For the people of Ondo South, its impact has been negligible, if not entirely absent, raising questions about whether the initiative was ever designed for their benefit or simply crafted as a political smokescreen. In the style of hollow intellectualism masquerading as policy, the senator’s approach feels less like leadership and more like calculated distraction — a reminder that sometimes, the loudest claims mask the thinnest results. It’s high time the district looked outside this echo chamber — perhaps, as some say, to the “alien’s stable” where results, not rhetoric, lead the charge. And in a broader perspective — while other senators from the state are reportedly lobbying for critical infrastructure, like the expansion of the Akure-Ore expressway, Ondo South residents struggle to name a single major initiative tied to their representative. Comparisons are already being made with the input of active and caring heart senators like Senator Yayi from Ogun State or Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Kogi, both of whom have taken bold steps to empower their constituencies beyond ‘ street light tokenism’ which all the 109 Senators have distributive patronage to. Adding further controversy is the alleged attempt by Senator Ibrahim to discredit female colleagues — particularly Senator Natasha — rather than focus on collaboration and delivery. Service delivery is not determined by academic credentials, and the case of Interior Minister Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo makes that point unequivocally clear. Without flaunting a PhD and without bias to the fact that BTO is an equally brilliant young mind, he has delivered transformative leadership — digitizing a once analog ministry, streamlining operations, and earning widespread praise from Nigerians at home and abroad. His results-driven approach has not only surpassed his predecessors but set a new benchmark for public office. In sharp contrast, the distinguished senator representing Ondo South seems more preoccupied with academic bragging rights than measurable performance, offering little more than rhetoric while his district remains underservedly stagnant.   Leadership is not just about titles or credentials — it’s about results. And right now, Ondo South may be missing out on both. With the 2027 elections drawing nearer, many are beginning to ask: is it time to look toward new, visionary leadership? The type that prioritizes people over profile, and performance over prestige? We’ll be watching as time ticks as we hope our elected Senator … Read more

ORIIRE YOUTH COUNCIL MET WITH INEC AND NOA, PROPOSE PARTNERSHIP FOR THEIR ONE WEEK-LONG PVC DRIVE

ORIIRE YOUTH COUNCIL MET WITH INEC AND NOA, PROPOSE PARTNERSHIP FOR THEIR ONE WEEK-LONG PVC DRIVE

In a significant move to deepen democratic engagement and boost voters’ participation in Oriire Local Government, the Oriire Youth Council (OYC) earlier today held a tripartite meeting with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) at the Legislative Building of the Oriire Local Government Secretariat. The meeting, which focused on forging partnerships for the upcoming PVC Sensitization Drive scheduled for August 18–22, was attended by key stakeholders from the three bodies. Leading the INEC delegation was *Mr. Olundegun M.A.*, Electoral Officer for Oriire, while *Mr. Adeniyi Oluseyi Gideon*, the Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officer (COMO), represented the NOA. In his opening remarks, Sarafadeen Isiaq Owonikoko,National Chairman of OYC, emphasized the importance of strategic collaborations to increase civic consciousness, particularly among youths and first-time voters. “Our people must understand that having a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is not just a right, but a responsibility to influence governance and development in our area,” he said. Akanji Folasade, Vice Chairman II of the Council, advocated for a community-based awareness model, suggesting that “religious centers, markets, and popular meeting places should be the key touchpoints of our campaign.” The National Public Relations Officer I, Ajadi Isaac Oluwasegun, described the campaign as timely, noting that “there is no better time to drive home the importance of voter participation, especially with the low voter turnout and large numbers of uncollected PVCs.” INEC’s Mr. Olundegun lamented the apathy among registered voters in the local government, revealing that “a significant number of PVCs are lying unclaimed in our custody. We are looking forward to the Youth Council’s efforts to encourage people, especially the youth, to come forward and collect their cards.” NOA’s representative, Mr. Adeniyi Oluseyi Gideon, commended the initiative and stressed the need to extend the advocacy beyond PVC collection to harnessing Oriire’s other potentials. “With our vast arable lands, we should also use this opportunity to promote community development and attract agricultural investments,” he advised. Ojo Oluwasegun Emmanuel, National PRO II, emphasized the need for continuity. “This sensitization shouldn’t end in one week; we should institutionalize civic education at the grassroots.” The Council’s Financial Secretary, Akorede Phebian Jacob highlighted the inclusive nature of the campaign, stating, “We are deliberate in reaching women, youths, and the elderly across all wards.” Aremu Gideon, who represented Ward 9, called on INEC and NOA to approve formal collaboration for the campaign period. “We hope that after today’s deliberation, we can move from intention to implementation.” Joshua Ojo Aderemi, Ex-Officio I and the member representing Oriire Youths at the Oyo State Youth Parliament, added that “voter apathy undermines our electoral strength. If we turn out massively to vote, it will boost our chances of attracting attention to Oriire in government policies, appointments, and infrastructural development.” The INEC and NOA representatives welcomed the proposal and assured the Council that the partnership request would be relayed to their respective superior offices for prompt consideration and possible approval. Earlier this month, OYC had also met with the Legislative Council of Oriire under the leadership of *Hon. Opeyemi Adebayo*, the Executive Chairman of Oriire LG, *Hon. Michael Alabi Olateju*, and *Hon. Johnson Ogundele Akin*, the Member representing Oriire State Constituency. Similarly, they held consultations with *Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin*, Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly. Scheduled meetings are underway with other political stakeholders including *Hon. Jacob Bamigboye*, *Rt. Hon. Gunju Ojo*, *Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala*, *Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi Ebenezer* and party secretariats of the PDP and APC. Courtesy visit letters have also been submitted to *Hon. Wasilat Adegoke* (Commissioner for Youth and Sports), *Hon. Dotun Oyelade* (Commissioner for Information), *Rt. Hon. Edward Adebo Ogundoyin* (Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly), *Hon. Open Salawu* (DG, Project Performance Monitoring Agency), and *Hon. Akinwale Wolekanle* (Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Service Commission). The Youth Council reiterated that the overarching aim of the campaign is to reposition Oriire in the political landscape by promoting active civic participation, thereby fostering a culture of accountability and responsive governance.

Oyo Govt Debunks Claims On Converting Bola Ige Market Carpark To Shop…says upgrade is transparent, collaborative

Oyo Govt Debunks Claims On Converting Bola Ige Market Carpark To Shop…says upgrade is transparent, collaborative

The Oyo State Government has debunked allegations that it has replaced the car park at Bola Ige international business complex, popularly known as Gbagi Market with new shops and extorted money from unsuspecting traders, overnight. This misleading report was published by a certain online blog and subsequently circulated on social media. The Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, Hon Adeniyi Adebisi, said the claim is entirely false, mischievous, and an intentional misrepresentation of an ongoing, well-planned redevelopment project. He said the Gbagi market redevelopment effort is being spearheaded in phases by the Oyo State Government, under the supervision of the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry, in close partnership with the market leadership and representatives of zonal traders’ associations. Mr. Adebisi said the portion of land being referred to was not an official car park but an underutilized area, prone to illegal vending and security risks. The Commissioner said following broad consultation with stakeholders, it was approved for formal stall development to promote orderliness and improve access and safety within the market environment. “Furthermore, No part of the main designated car park has been taken over or eliminated. The new shops are not situated in the core vehicle parking zone, he said. “Allocations were not made secretly or overnight, but through a transparent and documented process, coordinated by the leadership of the traders and relevant government departments. “Standardized shop allocation fees were communicated in advance to interested traders with options to opt in or out—there is no evidence of “coerced” payments as wrongly alleged. He reiterated that no trader will be unjustly displaced, and the project will be executed in line with the master plan agreed upon with all key market stakeholders. Adebisi urged members of the public, particularly media outlets, to verify facts before spreading reports capable of inciting public unrest or misleading residents. He also encouraged Market leaders and traders to channel concerns or inquiries to the Market Support Desk at the Ministry or reach out directly to the designated liaison officers. According to him, “the general public, particularly our esteemed market stakeholders, are urged to disregard this fabrication, which is clearly being sponsored by opposition elements and detractors determined to politicize every laudable initiative of the present administration.” Furthermore, the Chairman of the Zonal caretaker Leaders’ Bola Ige international business complex, Gbagi Ibadan, Alhaji Adetonan Morufu who featured on a radio station programme in Ibadan on Wednesday, firmly debunked the allegations and clarified the facts behind the redevelopment effort.
