Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will not support Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma for Senate President after the 2027 general elections.

Wike made the statement on Monday during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, amid his ongoing disagreement with Uzodimma and some All Progressives Congress governors over his proposed Rainbow Coalition.

Wike Accuses Governors of Seeking Control

Wike alleged that some APC governors were seeking to influence the emergence of the next Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives by controlling the lawmakers elected from their states.

“APC in their ongoing party primaries, the governors, in their own wisdom, believe that they should be able now to put senators or House of Reps members who they will dictate to who will become the next Senate President or the Speaker,” Wike said.

He specifically linked Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, to the reported Senate presidency ambition.

Wike Defends Rainbow Coalition

Wike maintained that his proposed Rainbow Coalition was not designed to undermine the APC, but to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He said coalition members should be able to support Tinubu for president while choosing their preferred candidates for other elective positions.

Wike also said he had encouraged his supporters to vote for Tinubu despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“It is me, who is telling my own people to vote for President Tinubu of the APC that should be talking about voters being confused on the day of election as to how to differentiate among the three ballot papers, not people in the APC,” he said.
