Tinubu’s Two Years In Office Disappointing- Ex-IPAC Chair

A former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, John Ameh, has described the two-year performance of President Bola Tinubu in office as disappointing.

Ameh, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Thursday evening, faulted the President’s removal of the fuel subsidy, stating that the decision to remove the subsidy was at the root of Nigerians’ suffering.

“For me, it has been very disappointing, just to state the obvious fact. Because for the first year, the president was nowhere to be found. He was spending most of his time in France and the UK.

“And then when he eventually settled down, he took the second part of that same year to try to settle himself in office by buying luxurious items like the yacht, refurnishing the presidential villa, buying kitchen utensils and vehicles for the National Assembly and for himself, and then buying a private jet for himself.

“These are the things he did in the early stage of his presidency. It wasn’t about concerns on how to make sure that life becomes more bearable and more comfortable, and the economy becomes more bearable,” he said

Ameh also argued that the President’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy was “unplanned, unscheduled” and “unorganised”, noting the challenges with an increase in the cost of transportation and cost of living.

“That’s been my point, that’s always been my point; it was hastily, badly implemented. It wasn’t timely. He didn’t take Nigerian citizens into consideration,” he said.

The former IPAC Chair also stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress would be “delusional” to take the defections of politicians to the party as a sign of good performance, adding that the reaction of the people towards the government of President Tinubu was one of pain and disappointment.

“It would be delusional for the party to think that they are performing. Nigerians are not moving their mouths. We just celebrated two years of the presidency of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Where are the people rejoicing? There are no people rejoicing. The core rule of whatever parameter you use to check your government is that the people. Vox populi, vox Deo. That means the voice of the people is the voice of God.

“And if you have an elitist movement for one party, governors moving, a governor has one vote. The governors who are moving out of their states. They couldn’t deliver for their presidential candidate. They couldn’t deliver for themselves as being vice presidential candidate in Delta. So you can’t use that.

“If you look at Akwa Ibom, he has been afraid to move because he knows that he’s going to be in danger. Because the people are not rejoicing in his movement. Because you know that the reaction of the people towards the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government is one of pain, is one of disappointment. It’s a fact that the president is not getting his policy right,” Ameh stated.
